Wedding playlist: For the country couple

This is probably the perfect playlist if your wedding starts with the preacher saying, “Y’all are gathered here today…”

Thompson Square is a real life, real country couple

Did you go all-out hoedown for your wedding? Are there cowboy boots under your dress, hay bales for seating, or drinks served in Mason jars? Whether you’re a proud Stetson-wearing cowgirl or just a city girl who loves a little bit of twang, these songs are guaranteed to add a little bit of country lovin’ to your reception.

1

“Hey Pretty Girl”

Kip Moore

Kip Moore, you stud! “Hey Pretty Girl” is as swoon-worthy as it gets. Granted, you as the girl can’t pick this song unless your fiancé either 1) Picks it out for you (we suggest going on a road trip and “accidentally” hitting repeat) or 2) Calls you “pretty girl.” However, we strongly suggest you try to finagle your way into getting this song as your first dance. It’s written for a lifetime of slow dances across the kitchen floor.

2

“Makin’ Plans”

Miranda Lambert

We love it when Miranda does love songs and not breakup songs. (Even if her breakup songs are always bada**.) “Makin’ Plans” off 2009’s Revolution is by far the best she’s done. It’s slow, but not too dramatic. We especially love the lines, “I know you like the back of my hand/Got a heart of gold and a piece of land/I’m your girl and you’re my man.” It really doesn’t get any more country and romantic than that, does it?

“Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right”

Billy Currington

It’s OK if you swoon a little over Billy. Your future hubby will completely understand. Not only is the singer absolutely precious, but he’s one heck of a singer and lyricist, too! You probably remember him from “Good Directions” and “People Are Crazy,” but we promise this song is 10 times better and a million times sweeter.

Those are our picks for a fun first dance song. Once you get that out of the way, you’re going to need some tunes for everyone to dance to, and we’ve got some help with that. Country is one seriously old genre. We didn’t go too far back, but we did pick some of our favorite ’90s songs, too! (Fair warning: Some of these are more party ready and less “first dance-worthy.”)
