Who hasn’t heard of the proverbial marriage pact? If two people haven’t gotten hitched by 35 or so, they pledge to take their platonic relationship down the aisle. We think the following eligible celebs should consider exchanging vows if love continues to elude them.
Usher & Kelly Rowland
While Usher’s career is white-hot right now, the R&B hunk’s love life is on ice. His marriage to Tameka Foster took a turn for the worst in 2009, and the two have been duking it out in the press ever since. We think fellow singer Kelly Rowland could be just the ticket to mend Usher’s broken heart. Although the former Destiny’s Child member is reportedly dating her manager, Tim Witherspoon, he’s yet to put a ring on it — leaving the door wide open for 34-year-old Usher and 32-year-old Rowland to make sweet music together.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel
If you watched (500) Days of Summer, you are acutely aware of how cute co-stars Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be as a couple. Just because they couldn’t make it onscreen doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be completely compatible in real life, especially since the two have been buds for a decade. I mean, c’mon, look at their over-the-top adorable homemade video cover of Nancy Wilson’s “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” — they may swear they are just friends, but that’s how many of the best marriages start out.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Emmy Rossum
Jake Gyllenhaal is handsome, smart and— by all accounts — a total catch, yet the 32-year-old actor can’t seem to find a partner with staying power. What’s up with that? We thought we heard wedding bells in the air during his and Reese Witherspoon’s long courtship, but alas, she broke things off and moved on with her now husband, Jim Toth. Similarly, 26-year-old Emmy Rossum is known as one of Tinseltown’s most charming talents, but she has been unlucky in love since her marriage to music executive Justin Siegel ended in 2010. Are we hopeless romantics to believe two total sweethearts such as these could finally give each other the happily-ever-after they so deserve?
Leighton Meester and Chace Crawford
On the recently ended CW series Gossip Girl, 26-year-old Leighton Meester and 27-year-old Chace Crawford played the show’s original Upper East Side power couple, Blair Waldorf and Nate Archibald — before Nate decided to shack up with Blair’s BFF Serena, that is. Their TV romance, ill-fated as it was, brought to light just how good Meester and Crawford look arm in arm. Seriously, they should make both a marriage pact and a baby pact, because their kids would hit the genetic jackpot.
Taylor Swift and Alex Pettyfer
Perhaps Taylor Swift keeps going through guys because she’s got a case of the fix-its. You know, she’s one of those girls who date guys that need some sort of romance rehabilitation. There was John Mayer, whom she tried to cure of his noncommittal ways. There was Jake Gyllenhaal, whom she tried to heal after Reese Witherspoon broke his heart. Alex Pettyfer… well, he can’t hold on to significant others either — ex-fiancée Riley Keough “reportedly” broke off their engagement after he “allegedly” cheated on her (the veracity of such claims and the current status of their relationship both remain a mystery!). We say give these two serial daters another decade or so before binding their marriage pact… then maybe cutie-pie Pettyfer will be ready for Swift’s brand of romantic rehab.
Jennifer Lawrence and Shia LaBeouf
Jennifer Lawrence and Shia LaBeouf both boast wildcard personalities — you just never know what is going to come out of their mouths! Admittedly, LaBeouf is much rougher around the edges than the gorgeous Hunger Games star, but we imagine she could hone his hot temper to a more socially acceptable level of snarkiness. Besides, the down-to-earth duo could kick back and bond over being touted as two of the most talented young actors in the industry. And if LaBeouf ever steps out of line, Lawrence can go all Hunger Games on his a**.
