Emma Watson shows audiences a new side to her acting range as she vamps it up in the trailer for the upcoming film The Bling Ring.
It looks like Hermione is all grown up. On Friday, A24 released the trailer for its new film, The Bling Ring, starring 22-year-old Emma Watson. The trailer shows a more adult side to the Harry Potter actress, who grew up over the franchise’s eight films.
The new film, directed by Oscar winner Sofia Coppola, is based on a true story of a band of California teens who terrorized young Hollywood stars in 2008 and 2009 by breaking into their homes and stealing expensive items from them. Some of the victims included Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Orlando Bloom and Lindsay Lohan. The film is adapted from the Nancy Jo Sales book The Suspects Wore Louboutins.
The trailer showcases Watson, who plays the ringleader of the $3 million caper, vamping for the cameras in a way audiences have never seen her do before. The actress clearly is the main focus of the film under the guidance of Coppola, who always brings out the best in her young female stars. In movies like The Virgin Suicides with Kirsten Dunst and Lost in Translation with Scarlett Johansson, moviegoing audiences were treated to the director’s signature filmmaking style of featuring a discontented female protagonist.
In addition to Watson, the film stars Gavin Rossdale, Taissa Farmiga, Leslie Mann and Paris Hilton. Yes, Hilton is a part of both the film and the true story.
Watson was last seen in 2012’s beloved The Perks of Being a Wallflower. She is also rumored to be eyeing the title role in Cinderella.
The Bling Ring is expected to hit the big screen on June 14.
