EW interview reveals new Girl Meets World details >>
Shedding light on how Topanga, whom we’ll get to see as a mom when Girl Meets World debuts, got that unforgettable name, the 31-year-old explained, “Michael Jacobs, who created Boy Meets World, says he was driving down the highway when production called and said, ‘We need a name for this character!'”
Put on the spot, the executive producer blurted out the first name he saw — even though it was the name of a canyon!
Fishel explained, “He happened to be driving past Topanga Canyon, so he said, ‘Topanga.’ He says that if they had called him two miles later, I would’ve been named Canoga, which is the next exit.”

A number of times, Danielle Fishel has bumped into real-life people named Topanga.
“People will tweet me, and I’ve had family members who have met other Topangas,” she shared. “It’s crazy and it’s flattering, but I never know what to say when they’re showing me their beautiful little girls. I’m like, ‘Really? Topanga!'”
One person who didn’t take to that particular name trend is Danielle Fishel‘s “first-ever girl crush,” Tiffani Thiessen! Speaking of the Saved by the Bell star, who is now mom to daughter Harper, the Maxim poser admitted, “I remember watching her and thinking, ‘Nobody in the world could possibly be as beautiful as she is.’ She’s still stunning.”
Can’t argue with that! Girl Meets World will premiere on Disney Channel later this year.
