Oz the Great and Powerful sequel being developed

A sequel to the newly released Oz the Great and Powerful is in the works.

Oz the Great and Powerfulhas just made its debut, but a follow-up is already in the works.

Variety reports that a sequel is currently being written byMitchell Kapner, who co-wrote the Sam Raimi–directed film with David Lindsay-Abaire.

That’s not surprising considering the colorful fantasy flick — starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams — is already on track to become a box office smash.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Oz the Great and Powerful, which earned favorable reviews from critics,took in a whopping $2 million during Thursday night showings. Studio execs are confident that the whimsical film will top the box office this weekend.

It is unclear which actors will be returning for the sequel, but according to Kunis, there’s a strong possibility that all of the stars could return.

“We’re all signed on for sequels,” the actress told E! on Thursday.

Weisz also seemed to be on board, telling the site, “If there is one, I’d love to be in it.”

All details surrounding the plot of the next film are currently under wraps.
