A spiritual journey awaits you on DVD this weekend

If you missed Life of Pi when it was in theaters, now is your chance to catch this beautiful Academy Award-winning film that will scare you, enchant you and feed your soul. Already saw it? Then see what other crowd-pleasers are new on DVD this week — one is even 100 percent fresh on the Tomatometer!

1) Life of Pi

Based on the book by Yann Martel, this film won the Best Director Oscar for Ang Lee last month. This probably irked Indian-born director M. Night Shyamalan to no end, considering Shyamalan was originally attached to direct. If you think animals have souls, you’ll love this exciting allegory where a young man and a tiger share a small raft after their ship sinks in the Atlantic ocean.

With the voices of Alec Baldwin as the character North, Isla Fisher as Tooth, Chris Pine as Jack Frost and Hugh Jackman as Bunny, there’s plenty of comedy and fun characters.

4) Sound City

Directed by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, this doc explores the dumpy yet legendary Sound City recording studios in dilapidated Van Nuys, California. Now closed, the studio recorded a wide array of artists from Trent Reznor to Neil Young to Pat Benatar. If you like indie rock, you’ll love this movie.
