RED HOT BOOK OF THE WEEK: Heart Like Mine by Amy Hatvany

Amy Hatvany’s latest, Heart Like Mine (March 19), is an emotional and impactful novel about motherhood and our pick for the Red Hot Book of the Week.

About Amy Hatvany

If you love women’s fiction, you’ll love Amy Hatvany. And if she’s not already on your radar, home in on her immediately!

Each of her books will take you on an emotional journey that grips you from page one right until the very end. I first fell in love with Hatvany’s writing when I read her novel, Best Kept Secret, the story of a mother struggling with an alcohol addiction.

And then I read and lovedOutside the Lines, a captivating novel about a woman who can’t move forward until she faces her past and the father she hasn’t seen in two decades. (We included this novel in our Best books for moms gift guide.) But my favorite book is her latest, Heart Like Mine (out tomorrow, March 19).

About Heart Like Mine

Thirty-six-year-old Grace McAllister never longed for children. But when she meets Victor Hansen, a handsome, charismatic divorced restaurateur who is father to Max and Ava, Grace decides that, for the right man, she could learn to be an excellent part-time stepmom. After all, the kids live with their mother, Kelli. How hard could it be?

At 13, Ava Hansen is mature beyond her years. Since her parents’ divorce,  Ava has had the responsibility of taking care of her emotionally unstable mother and her little brother. Without complaint, she does everything from the laundry to paying the bills. Even though her father has moved on to another relationship with a nice enough woman named Grace, Ava still hopes for a reconciliation between him and her mom.

But only days after Victor and Grace announce they are getting married, Kelli dies suddenly. And as they try to piece together the mystery of her death, Grace and Ava discover that there was much more to Kelli’s life than either ever knew.

Told from the alternating points of view of Grace and Ava in the present with flashbacks into Kelli’s troubled past, you’ll love this poignant story about the challenges this family faces.
