RED HOT BOOK OF THE WEEK: Market Street by Anita Hughes

We were “in the market” for a great read and Anita Hughes delivered us one! That’s why we picked Market Street as our Red Hot Book of the Week

About Anita Hughes

I became a fan of Anita Hughes after reading her debut novel, Monarch Beach, the sparkling story of a woman’s self-discovery. (We even included it in our best beach reads for the summer.) Her books have been described as “easy-breezy” and “heartfelt” and, for me, this is the perfect combination, especially when I want to lose myself in someoene else’s life so I can take a break from my own. Her second novel, Market Street is another fun book, but one that also has a tremendous amount of heart.

About Market Street

What do you get when you team up a department store heiress (Cassie Blake), a messy marriage and a passion for food? A delicious new novel by Anita Hughes! Market Street is a true literary treat that you’ll be sure to devour quickly, anxious to see how it all turns out for Cassie.
By all accounts, Cassie Blake leads a charmed life as the heiress to Fenton’s, San Francisco’s most exclusive department store. Well that is until she makes a shocking discovery — her husband, Aidan, a handsome professor has cheated on her with one of his students. She immediately escapes to her best friend Alexis’ home and debates if her marriage is worth saving.

If only whether or not to forgive her husband was Cassie’s only difficult decision. Her mother is also anxious to have her take charge of the openeing of Fenton’s new Food Emporium which she hopes will become San Francicso’s be-all-end-all gourmet shopping destination.

Cassie’s never had the passion for fashion that her mother posesses and she wonders if her mom is trying to lure her into the Fenton’s circle by entrusting her with such an important opportunity. And then we should probably mention James, the architect in charge of creating the emporium, who also happens to be secretly falling in love with Cassie.

If you love high fashion, delicious high-end food and San Francisco, you’ll be in heaven with Hughes’ brilliant descriptions. An engaging story of love, trust, marriage and family, you’ll be hooked immediately and savour each page until the very end. Although even after you close the book, the characters will linger with you long after. So if you’re heading out on a spring break trip or a vacation, I highly recommend tossing a copy of Market Street in your bag.
