1) Lincoln
Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated-film was thought to be the front-runner for best picture, especially since Argo’s director, Ben Affleck, wasn’t even nominated for Best Director. But Lincoln would have to settle for winning Best Leading Actor (Daniel Day Lewis) and Best Production design. This film is poignant, witty and breathtakingly powerful. If you didn’t see it in the theater, you must rent this film.

4) To the Arctic
A land where snow, ice fishing and frigid temperatures are the norm doesn’t sound like an ideal place to raise children, but for one mama polar bear, it’s all she’s got. Meryl Streep narrates this spectacular film about an animal family struggling to survive in the arctic wilderness.

5) A Royal Affair
This corset-ripper promises sexually charged intrigue and royal power struggles that may just ruin several lives. Inspired by the life of the possibly insane Danish King Christian VII, this movie details his love triangle with his royal physician and his young Queen as the citizens of Denmark fight for a better life.
