Judge Judy’s son, Adam Levy, in hot water over rape case

Judge Judy‘s son, Adam Levy, is a New York county district attorney but finds himself on the other side of a heated child rape case. Sheriff Donald Smith accuses Levy of protecting the county’s prime suspect, Alexandru Hossu.

Judge Judy‘s son, Adam Levy, is a prominent public figure in Putnam County, New York. Levy serves as the county’s District Attorney and unfortunately now finds himself on the wrong side of a child rape case.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith — who has not been shy about his dislike for Levy — accuses Levy of trying to deter the investigation of Smith’s prime suspect in the rape of a 12-year-old girl. (The victim is now 15 years old; she recently reported two sexual assaults which allegedly took place in 2010).

At the center of the case is Alexandru Hossu, an immigrant from Romania who overstayed his visa over a decade ago. Hossu is accused of raping the victim back in 2010. Smith claims Hossu gave Levy’s home address — a multi-million dollar mansion — as his primary residence and described Hossu as Levy’s “live-in personal trainer.”

The sheriff went ever further and stated Judge Judy’s son is blatantly trying to derail the investigation of Hossu. Said Smith regarding Levy’s actions, “He is apparently trying to influence and affect the investigation, which could be perceived as an ethical violation of his official status and perhaps even an attempt to undermine it.” It’s not yet clear what actions Adam Levy took that could be perceived as improper but it appears that Smith may believe Levy intentionally shielded Hossu from immigration authorities.

Levy states his family “has known Hossu for years” but was unaware he was an undocumented resident and recused himself from the case when Hossu was brought forward as a suspect. Smith is not satisfied and states Levy’s decision to remove himself from the case was not his own.

Smith told the press, “In my view, Mr. Levy’s comments and actions would seem to suggest that, if he could have his own way, Mr. Hossu would never have been brought to justice for his crime and Mr. Levy’s relationship with him would never have been brought to the light of public scrutiny.” It should be noted Hossu is still a suspect in the case and has not yet been tried for the crime of which he stands accused.

Adam Levy’s mother, Judy Sheindlin — “Judge Judy” from the television courtroom show — released a statement through her rep regarding Levy’s press coverage. “The sole focus of this story should be the investigation as to whether a young girl was the victim of a very serious crime,” she said.
