Here’s my response.

Jay-Z is mad. I mean really mad. So if you are a rich and famous hip-hop mogul, what are you going to do? What any other rich and famous hip-hop mogul would do: Call your friends Timbaland and Swizz Beatz and lay it all out in the studio at 9 p.m. on a Wednesday night.
The finished product is called “Open Letter” and it premiered Thursday morning both on Jay-Z’s website Life + Times and New York radio station Hot 97’s morning show.
Hot 97’s programming director Ebro Darden explained Jay-Z was disgusted that news media outlets like CNN have been focusing on his trip to Cuba with Beyoncé while more important stories like the North Korean political threats have been pushed to the back burner.

Jay-Z’s distrust of the media comes through when he raps:
”Idiot wind, the Bob Dylan of rap music
You’re an idiot baby, you should become a student.”
The lyric refers to Dylan’s 1975 song “Idiot Wind” which begins with the lyric, “Someone’s got it in for me, they’re planting stories in the press.”
Before Castro, Cuba was a place where celebs would go to relax and dine and Jay-Z longs for those days:
“I done turned Havana to Atlanta
White guayabera shirts and bandanas
I’m in Cuba, I love Cubans
This time and this talk is so confusing.”

And of course, Jay-Z directs his vitriol at the members of Congress such as Florida Republican Marco Rubio who are calling for an investigation into his Cuba trip:
“Politicians never did s*** for me
Except lie to me, distort history
Wanna give me jail time and a fine
Fine, let me commit a real crime.”
Also of concern to Jay-Z is the criticism surrounding the sale of his minority share in the New Jersey Nets to fund his new sports management agency:
“Could’ve bought the Nets to Brooklyn for free
Except I made millions off it, you f***ing dweeb
I still own the building, I’m still keeping my seat
?Y’all buy that bulls***, you’d better keep your receipt.”

Well, Jay-Z, I am glad you could get that off your chest. And while younger hip-hop artists have been known to take their beef to the streets, lucky for us, Jay-Z takes it to the studio. The entire song is below, and I’m not sure I need to tell you this, but it contains some language that Jay-Z’s mother would not be too proud about.
