Mark Wahlberg is a Boston boy, born and bred. He’s been trying to stay away from his past musical career for the last 20 years. But would he bring back Marky Mark for the love of his city?
Ben Affleck. Matt Damon. Mark Wahlberg. All names of A-list actors who made their way out of the Boston area and on to bigger and better things. For Mark Wahlberg, he made a stop in the music industry before becoming the successful actor he is today. In fact, at the time, his fans may have never thought he would do anything other than music.

In 1991, the brother of New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg started his own group, known as Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. (Mark Wahlberg had even been a member of NKOTB in the early days.)
With the Funky Bunch, Wahlberg sold millions of albums and at one point was No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 list. He toured with New Kids on the Block and released another, less successful, album. But that was it for Marky Mark. In 1993, he officially launched his acting career.
Since then, he’s starred in films like Fear, The Perfect Storm, The Departed and 2012’s Ted. Wahlberg doesn’t mention his musical past much, but a TMZ reporter decided to ask about it.

With the recent tragedy in Boston after the Marathon bombing and the effort to raise money for the victims, the reporter was curious just how far Wahlberg would go to help the cause.
“Mark,” the TMZ reporter asked. “Would you ever do a once-in-a-lifetime concert for the victims of Boston?”
“Absolutely,” Wahlberg responded, according to The Wrap.
“As Marky Mark and the Fun Bunch?” the reporter further prodded.
According to The Wrap, an awkward moment followed, but Wahlberg finally said, “Funky Bunch. Close.”
But then he reportedly added, “Why not?”

Funky Bunch fans everywhere may have just gotten their biggest wish. With the New Kids on the Block out touring, fans may be able to hope for a tour just like the one over two decades ago.
Even though Wahlberg was most likely joking, we now know he’ll do just about anything for his city.
