Battle of the flicks: Iron Man 3 VS. The Iceman

by

Two very different men hit movie theaters today — one is very cold and the other is smokin’ hot! So should you spend the evening with a super hero or a gritty murderer? Tough call!

Iron Man 3

In 3D, this film will excite all your senses and has to be the best super hero film since The Dark Knight Rises hit theaters last year.

Robert Downey Jr and love-her-or-hate-her Gwyneth Paltrow are back and must work together to defeat a new foe called the Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley.

Iron Man 3 has lots of laughs on top of mesmerizing action sequences. It’s really a fun time.

Take a look at what some other gals thought:

MaryAnn Johanson of Flick Filosopher said, “There isn’t a single thing wrong with this flick. Okay, the 3D is even more pointless and superfluous than in most 3D movies. But the cloud of air I was walking on afterward meant I was hardly bothered by that. It’s rare that the threequel is the best of the bunch: savor it.”

Rima Sabina Aouf of Concrete Playground said, “This is a slick, inspired fantasy-adventure that almost anyone can enjoy. May Marvel Studios sign Downey Jr and co for many sequels to come.”

Susan Griffin of the Birmingham Post said, “Fun for both fans and newbies to the comic book world, the movie may be a lengthy 129 minutes but it doesn’t feel like it.”

The Iceman

This movie is based on a real hit man named Richie Kuklinski, who is said to have killed more than 100 people in his career working for the mob.

Played by Boardwalk Empire‘s Michael Shannon, Kuklinski somehow manages to keep his killing from his virtuous wife, Deborah, played wonderfully by Winona Ryder.

This movie is very dark and gritty with plenty of violence. But it is very well acted, and Kuklinski’s duality makes for an interesting character study.

Here’s what some other ladies thought:

Rebecca Moss of the Village Voice said, “Shannon gives an unnerving performance as a man caged in a cruel apathy, maintaining a controlled façade that seems to twitch with barely sublimated distress.”

Staci Layne Wilson of Yahoo! said, “The story unfolds as expected, and while Shannon is fantastic, he could have been given so much more with a forceful (let’s see into the psyche), leaner (less of the family life), bolder (“The Iceman” is less shocking than, say, an episode of “Boardwalk Empire”) script.
