Occasionally, celebrity moms get a bad rap for being out of touch, team-of-nanny-having moms. But not all Hollywood moms are created equal. Here are a few famous moms who have broken the stereotype and demonstrated super-mom powers…
Denise Richards
Denise Richards, who has two daughters (Lola and Sam) with Charlie Sheen (and another daughter she adopted on her own) graciously stepped up to bat to care for Sheen’s other two small children with Brooke Mueller. Mueller is at the Betty Ford Center, after overdosing six times in the past two years. While Brooke tries to kick her addiction to drugs, 4-year-old twins Bob and Max are well cared for and playing with their siblings on a daily basis at Denise Richards‘ home. While rumors swirl that Brooke is no longer in love with the arrangement and trying to get her kids moved to her brother’s house, we commend Denise for stepping in and caring for the children of her ex-husband’s ex-wife. Wow. That’s a lot of exes in there. Three cheers for Denise!

Jennifer Garner
Jennifer Garner makes our super-mom list because she could easily be the mom sitting next to us on the soccer field sidelines, you know, if it weren’t for her impressive acting career and the fact that she’s married to Oscar-winning actor Ben Affleck. She won Today’s Parent “Celebrity Mother of the Year” for being honest about being overwhelmed and exhausted as mother to Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel (among other reasons). We love her down-to-earth attitude, acting like the mom-next-door while she is anything but. When husbby Ben hosted Saturday Night Live last weekend, Jennifer cracked us up by reminding Ben who does all the “work.”

Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum must have forgot her super-mom cape at home when she and her four children were vacationing in Hawaii over Easter and her son Henry got caught in a rip tide with three other adults. Heidi’s mom instincts went into overdrive when she dove in after her son to rescue him. Heidi described the scary incident to Ellen DeGeneres, saying, “It took 4 seconds and he was out, but the grown-ups, it was really hard for them to get back out. The waves were just all of the sudden taking them deeper into the ocean. It’s really wild.” In an instant, Heidi went from supermodel to super-mom.

Jenny McCarthy
When Jenny McCarthy’s son Evan, was diagnosed with autism a few years ago, McCarthy used her celebrity status to publish a book, Louder Than Words, A Mother’s Journey in Healing Autism, that generated awareness and a nationwide discussion about dealing with, treating, and potentially preventing autism. On OprahRadio Jenny said, “I speak in front of one to two thousand parents [of children with autism] a week. The same thing they keep saying to me over and over is, ‘Thank you because now people don’t think I’m crazy.'” It takes a tremendous amount of courage to talk to others about your children’s disabilities, but in so doing Jenny helped herself, her son and thousands of other parents.
