We’re all reading this morning’s headlines about the death toll from the Oklahoma tornadoes with a heavy heart. With the death toll rising and many of those deaths being children, what can we do besides grieve, pray, and hug our children? You can start by sending a text…
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is a first responder in such disasters and our go-to place when we want to lend a hand. This organization has made it even easier to help. You can make a $10 donation by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999. The donation will appear on your cell phone bill or be deducted from your balance if you have a prepaid phone. (You have to be over the age of 18 or have parental permission to donate this way). The Red Cross also suggests giving blood to your local hospital or blood bank. Salvation Army
Ever imagine what it must be like to be one of the first responders to a site like Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, Okla., where you’d be picking through the devastation, hoping to return children to their families? Neither can we. If it isn’t feasible for you to fly to Moore to give a first responder a hug, consider donating to the Salvation Army. The organization provides food, hydration, and emotional support to first responders and survivors. Simply text the word STORM to 80888 to send a $10 donation, or donate online. (At the time this was written, this site was not responding, we hope due to all the people trying to donate. We assume this is a temporary issue.) You can also make a donation by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
Operation USA
Operation USA helps local clinics and hospitals replace lost supplies and equipment and provides grants to help replace lost medical resources. Text AID to 50555 to make a $10 donation, donate online or call 1-800-678-7255.
United Way of Central Oklahoma
The United Way of Central Oklahoma is responding to the devastation in Oklahoma with relief and recovery efforts. A specific relief fund has been established for the Oklahoma tornadoes. You can donate to this fund by clicking here.
