Months after telling lead singer Scott Weiland he was through, it looks like Stone Temple Pilots have hired a new singer. It’s someone who is no stranger to the industry or the band.
Earlier this year, Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland denied being kicked out of his own band. But it looks like STP was pretty serious because it debuted a new lead singer at a show this past weekend.

Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington was only 10 years old when Stone Temple Pilots formed, but he is apparently their new lead singer. According to MTV, the weekend show was a surprise, but the band has also recorded a song with Bennington. He is now in band photos on the site as well.
“Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time,” guitarist Dean DeLeo told radio station KROQ. “We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.”

It sounds like Bennington is still very much dedicated to his original band, but he told MTV he has been a fan of STP since he was 13 years old. The new song, “Out of Time”, is the band’s first new song since 2010.
“No details have been announced yet on how the new arrangement will work and what impact it will have on LP’s next album, or if Bennington will tour with STP,” MTV said. “For now, the group has a second gig scheduled for Club Nokia in Los Angeles on May 30.”
Although Weiland seemed surprised to be kicked out of the band, many would argue he is a reason for its ups and downs over the years. He has long struggled with personal problems, which led to the band breaking up in 1997 and 2002.
“Last February, DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz announced that Weiland had been “officially terminated” from the group, and the singer subsequently embarked on a solo tour,” Billboard reported.
As for Bennington, he couldn’t be more excited to be joining one of his favorite bands.

“When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance,” he told Billboard. “The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.”
