Brad Pitt’s Esquire interview: Brad’s juiciest quotes

Brad Pitt has been generating buzz for things he said in the upcoming June/July issue of Esquire magazine. If you’ve been lusting over Brad since Thelma & Louise (you know who you are) you know Brad’s been saying candid, sometimes off-the-wall stuff for years. Here are a few of our favorite BP quotes…

Marriage to Jennifer Aniston

It’s fantastic. I love it. Being married means I can fart and eat ice cream in bed. Jen is brilliant. I’m really missing her. (Source: Us Weekly)

Acting

You shouldn’t speak until you know what you’re talking about. That’s why I get uncomfortable with interviews. Reporters ask me what I feel China should do about Tibet. Who cares what I think China should do? I’m a f*cking actor! They hand me a script. I act. I’m here for entertainment. Basically, when you whittle everything away, I’m a grown man who puts on makeup. Parenting

Having children takes the focus off yourself, which I’m really grateful for. I’m so tired of thinking about myself. I’m sick of myself. (Source: Today Show)

“One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mom.” (Source: Parade)

I always thought that if I wanted to do a family, I wanted to do it big. I wanted there to be chaos in the house. There’s constant chatter in our house, whether it’s giggling or screaming or crying or banging. I love it. I love it. I love it. I hate it when they’re gone. I hate it. Maybe it’s nice to be in a hotel room for a day — ‘Oh, nice, I can finally read a paper.’ But then, by the next day, I miss that cacophony, all that life. (Source: Esquire)

Life with Angelina Jolie

She’s still a bad girl, delightfully so. It’s not for public consumption. (Source: CBS This Morning)

There are no secrets at our house. We tell the kids, ‘Mom and Dad are going off to kiss.’ They go, ‘Eww, gross!’ But we demand it. (Source: USA Weekend)

Once I walked in and Angie was standing there and Zahara walked up and said, ‘Daddy, you’re not going to start making out with Mommy again, are you?’ (Source: Esquire)

On marrying Angelina

We’d actually like to, and it seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren’t going to do it till everyone can. But I don’t think we’ll be able to hold out.” (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)

Few friends, but happy

I have a handful of close friends and I have my family and I haven’t known life to be any happier. I’m making things. I just haven’t known life to be any happier. (Source: Esquire)

And now, deep thoughts by Brad Pitt >>

Drugs

For a long time I thought I did too much damage — drug damage. I was a bit of a drifter. A guy who felt he grew up in something of a vacuum and wanted to see things, wanted to be inspired. I followed that other thing. I spent years f*cking off. But then I got burnt out and felt that I was wasting my opportunity. (Source: Esquire)

I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage [to Aniston] had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t. (Source: Parade)

In a written statement, Pitt later clarified the above comment:

It grieves me that this was interpreted this way. Jen is an incredibly giving, loving and hilarious woman who remains my friend. It is an important relationship I value greatly. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull but that I was becoming dull to myself — and that I am responsible for.

Hobbies

(When Architectural Digest asked, “What is it about uninterrupted lines that is appealing to you?”)

I can’t wholly articulate it, but it started with my introduction to Mackintosh’s Glasgow rose, which is drawn with one continuous line. But for me there is something more grand at play, as if you could tell the story of one’s life with a single line — from birth to death, with all the bloody triumphs and perceived humiliating losses, even boredoms, along the way. It’s just a story, in the end, of highs and lows. From beginning to end. But a personal story. And of course if you were to connect those ends, it becomes a continuum.
