Keith Urban has no idea what’s going on with American Idol

Will Keith Urban and Mariah Carey be back next season on American Idol? There’s at least one person who is still as clueless as the rest of us.

Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj have already bowed out of the next season of American Idol, leaving Keith Urban and Mariah Carey as the only possible returning judges next season. But will either actually return?

Turns out Urban is as clueless as the rest of us.

“I have no official information of anything,” the 45-year-old country star told the Associated Press. “I’m pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around. I don’t know anything more about what’s happening next season. It was like this before I signed on… so it’s not unusual for the Idol folks to be in this place of figuring out what they want to do, then they always pull it together.”

Is Urban happy with his tumultuous first turn at the judges table? “I did as much as I could in the environment we had,” he said, rather cagily. But despite a season known more for the catfights between Carey and Minaj than any of the contestants, he said his reason for doing it in the first place remains the reason he would come back if asked.

“I love artists. I love the beginnings of artists when all they’ve got is raw talent and nothing else,” he said. “They’ve got no star power, just nothing going on but just this raw talent that’s just beautiful to see, and you look at them and just go, ‘All you’re needing is life experience… because you’ve got everything else ready to go.'”

Keith Urban is working on a new album titled Fuse, which is set for release Sept. 10, 2013.
