Liam Hemsworth joins Twitter

After resisting the social media site for years, Liam Hemsworth has joined Twitter. But he’s not following Miley Cyrus.

It looks like someone did an about-face when it comes to social media. The man who made Miley Cyrus quit Twitter for a short time has joined the 140-character site himself. Welcome to the Twitterverse, Liam Hemsworth!

The Hunger Games actor joined the site on Wednesday with a pretty generic message to his followers.

He wrote, “Kicking it off on Twitter for the first time. Glad to be on board. Thank you for following… -L”

Fans probably won’t get deep revelations from Hemsworth, but it is a notable change from his previous attitude towards the website. Back in October 2009, he encouraged his then-girlfriend Cyrus to quit posting such personal information.

Cyrus wrote in her farewell tweet, “FYI Liam [Hemsworth] doesn’t have a twitter and he wants ME to delete mine with good reason.”

Of course, her sendoff included a rap video about why she was leaving Twitter. At the time, the former Hannah Montana star was just 16 years old.

The hiatus lasted longer than most people thought it would, but she did eventually reactivate her account. The 17-month absence must have bugged the singer a bit because when she returned she wrote, “Let’s get me back to as many followers as before!”

As for Hemsworth, he will most likely use Twitter for promotional purposes like many celebrities. The actor does have two huge studio films coming out this year — Paranoia with Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman launches Aug. 16, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits theaters Nov. 22.

One other curious item to note is that Hemsworth is only following five people — and his on-again, off-again fiancée is not one of them.
