Johnny Depp‘s love of accessories started out innocently enough: He opted for a simple necklace or arm cuff — and an earring — during his 21 Jump Street and Cry Baby days back in the ’80s. Back then he was more worried about coiffing his hair with enough gel and attitude.

Then, things began to change in the early 2000s. He started wearing a lot of different colors with an assortment of hats, wide collars and wild goatees. Maybe his frequent collaborator and fellow offbeat personality, Tim Burton, was starting to rub off on him.

His accessories game really took off when he played the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He must have lifted a few (or a hundred) things from the set, because now he doesn’t go a day without wearing about 50 belts, bracelets, earrings, ties and scarves — all at the same time.
We’re not even mad about it: The guy can pull off the “I’m trying really hard to look effortless” look with ease.
