That’s a wrap on Joan Vassos’ season of The Golden Bachelorette after an emotional finale episode in which Chock Chapple got down on one knee during the final rose ceremony. Joan and Chock are officially engaged and embarking on a pretty major next chapter together. So, all is right in Bachelor Nation, right? Well, not really since fans are still reeling from a very dramatic season.
Filled with scandals and twists both on and off the screen, Joan’s season might have concluded with a happy ending but there were many bumps in the road.
Days after the season premiere of The Golden Bachelorette, the show’s first scandal came in hot when news broke that one of the men vying to find love with the season lead Joan Vassos had a dark past.
Gil Ramirez’s ex-girlfriend filed for a temporary restraining order against him days before he began filming with Joan and the other men in the show’s debut season. However, Gil wasn’t the only man who ran into trouble in the media during the show.
Here Are the Biggest The Golden Bachelorette Scandals
Gil Ramirez’s Stalking Allegations
According to court documents obtained by People, Gil’s ex-girlfriend filed for a temporary restraining order against him on June 11, days before filming for The Golden Bachelorette began.
The woman cited “harassment — emotional” in the filing and claimed, Gil “made repeated unwanted contact with me, family members and friends,” after being told to stay away.
She did not accuse Gil of physical violence but claimed he made “25 attempts daily via phone, texts, video” to contact her. “Although lives an hour away — showed up at places I frequent to confront me on a daily basis,” she said.
As a result, Gil was largely edited out of the show before he was eventually dumped.
Guy Gansert’s Alleged Threats Against His Ex
Several weeks into the show, People also broke the news that Guy Gansert was the subject of a protective order filed by his ex-wife, Heidi O’Gara, in 2021.
Guy’s ex accused him of sending texts “trying to reconcile then flipping to anger,” and later “physically tried to threaten me.” She requested that the court mandate that he only contact her about matters related to their kids.
She dismissed the filing before the protective order was granted.
In a statement to People, Heidi addressed the incident saying, “While our divorce was very difficult, to protect our family’s privacy and to move forward, we reached a mutual resolution and have chosen not to comment about it publicly.”
Guy also shared a response on social media saying, “This was an unfortunate situation that occurred during an incredibly stressful time for me and my former spouse and was ultimately resolved when she voluntary [sic] dismissed her request for a protective order.”
“Together we crafted a resolution that was agreeable to both parties.”
Pascal Igbui’s Scathing Criticism of Chock Chapple
Given how close all of Joan’s suitors seemed on her season of The Golden Bachelorette, no one would have expected this secret beef!
Pascal proved that he definitely had some tensions with Chock when he spoke to Glamour about Chock remaining glued to Joan’s side during a group date in their season.
“Chock was all over her to the point where he was [like a] stalker,” Pascal said. “I mean, it was like, ‘I love you, let’s leave. Let’s do this, let’s do that.’ And, ‘Which side of the bed are you sleeping on?'”
“It’s bizarre behavior. I don’t know. ‘I can’t wait to be with you. I feel my love with you.’ Maybe in Wichita there is no women. I don’t know.” Ouch… that is pretty cruel!
Pascal did publicly apologize to Chock shortly before the November 13 finale episode.
“I wanted to make this video because I want to thank Bachelor Nation, to include me in the first Golden Bachelorette season. What an incredible experience. I had the chance to meet some incredible gentlemen during the way,” Pascal said in a video shared on his Instagram page. “But the most important is I want to apologize to Chock.”
“Me calling him a stalker was out of line, inappropriate, uncalled for, and definitely the wrong use of word,” he explained. “So please, Chock, accept my apology.”
Pascal’s Exit
Throughout her season, Joan’s connection with Pascal seemed strong so we weren’t expecting the French hair salon owner to be the one to pull the plug on their relationship.
After an initimate date ahead of their scheduled night in the Fantasy Suite, Pascal got cold feet about their romance and decided to walk away from the show.
“I care very much about you, and the last thing I wanted to do is to hurt you, and I just don’t think I could get at the place where you want me to be,” Pascal told Joan.
“I’m having a very difficult time, because I know what love is. I’ve experienced it. You’ve experienced it. And I care about you as a friend, but I’m not in love.”
Mark Anderson’s Fall From Grace
Going into the season, Mark Anderson was definitely a fan favorite. As the dad of Joey Graziadei’s season 28 winner Kelsey Anderson, Mark caught the attention of The Bachelor fans who were introduced to him during Kelsey’s hometown date.
However, as The Golden Bachelorette progressed, fans accused Mark of only joining the show to land a place as the next Golden Bachelor.
Fans alleged that Mark was being deliberately closed off in order to get dropped from the show and still be in the running for The Golden Bachelor.
Mark shut down the allegations in an Oct. 24 interview with Bustle saying, “I didn’t start The Golden Bachelorette for practice. I came on The Golden Bachelorette because I was hoping to find the start of a relationship.”
