Demi Moore is making headlines for many reasons thanks to her incredible comeback year after her Oscar-nominated role in The Substance. However, her dating life is a wonderful mystery now that her professional career is getting the credit it deserves.
So, as we get ready to be wowed by Moore’s red carpet looks this award show season, and potentially see her take the stage accepting major awards, we’ve decided to take a deep dive into her personal life over the years.
Sure, some of her relationships you might know well, like her longtime marriage to Bruce Willis or her controversial relationship with Ashton Kutcher. But did you know Moore isn’t even her birth name and that she got it from her first husband? Or that she had relationships with not one but two co-stars from St. Elmo’s Fire?
Does Demi Moore Have a Boyfriend?
Moore is currently single after ending her relationship with chef Daniel Humm in 2022. However, the actress did spark dating rumors with Andrew Garfield after he presented her with her Golden Globe award back in January.
The two stars were also pictured together at Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 and a source told Deux Moi, via Newsweek, that they spent time together in Idaho after the Golden Globes.
That said, Moore confirmed that she was single during a September 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, joking about how she sleeps with her nine dogs in her bed. “If anybody saw my nighttime routine, if it was filmed, they would really see how eccentric I really am,” Moore said while laughing. “Hence why I’m single!”

Freddy Moore (1980 – 1983)
Even longtime fans of Moore might not know that Moore isn’t actually her last name from birth. In fact, she got the name from her first husband, Freddy Moore. The actress married the rock musician in 1980 when she was 17 and he was 29.
In her 2019 memoir, Inside Out, Moore talked about the jitters she felt before tying the knot. “The night before we got married, instead of working on my vows, I was calling a guy I’d met on a movie set,” Moore admitted, per People. “I snuck out of my own bachelorette party and went to his apartment.”
“Why did I do that? Why didn’t I go and see the man I was committing to spend the rest of my life with to express my doubts? Because I couldn’t face the fact that I was getting married to distract myself from grieving the death of my father,” she wrote. “Because I felt there was no room to question what I’d already put in motion. I couldn’t get out of the marriage, but I could sabotage it.”
The pair separated in 1983 and finalized their divorce in 1985.
Timothy Hutton (1983)
After separating from her first husband, Moore had a brief relationship with fellow actor Timothy Hutton. It’s unclear how long they dated but they attended one red carpet together, at the Sixth Annual Carousel Ball to Benefit the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes.
In 2024, Hutton supported Moore in a screening for her movie The Substance in NYC so it’s safe to say they ended on good terms.
Jon Cryer (1985)
After starring in No Small Affair together in 1984, Demi Moore dated actor Jon Cryer in 1985.
In her memoir, Moore revealed she was struggling with her mental health at the time, and regretted taking his virginity. “It pains me to think of how callous I was with his feelings – that I stole what could have been such an important and beautiful moment from him,” Moore wrote, per USA Today.
The Two and a Half Men star then responded to the claim on X. “Well, the good thing about this is she doesn’t have to feel bad about it anymore, because while I’m sure she was totally justified making that assumption based on my skill level (and the stunned look on my face at the time), I had actually lost my virginity in high school,” Cryer wrote.
“But she’s right [about] the other part, I was over the moon for her during a very troubled time in her life,” he continued. “I have nothing but affection for her and not a regret in the world.”
Rob Lowe (1985)
In another co-star romance, Moore lived a short fling with Rob Lowe after acting together in About Last Night.
“In his own memoir, Rob suggests that we had some kind of hot-and-heavy romance,” Moore wrote in her memoir, per Vulture. “I can vaguely recall one ill-advised late night together, but I’m grateful to him for the complimentary descriptions of our youth.”
“I mean, Demi and I briefly — I’m not telling tales out of school — we briefly had a thing,” Lowe told Kelly Ripa on her Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, per People. “Look, anytime you put young 20-something men and women together, hookups are inevitable.”
Emilio Estevez (1985 – 1986)
Shortly after going out with Lowe, Moore starred in St. Elmo’s Fire and met her next love interest, Emilio Estevez. The two started dating in 1985, got engaged six months later but split before ever tying the knot.
“Emilio and I had in fact just mailed out the invitations for our wedding when a friend told me she had seen him out with someone else in L.A.,” Moore remembered in her memoir, per Vulture. “He denied it, of course, but I was having a hard time trusting him: during a two-week breakup a few months before, he’d slept with an ‘ex’ girlfriend, lied about it and then been forced to tell me the truth when he found out she was pregnant.”
Before calling it off, she invited him to see her therapist. “When he revealed his priorities in that session — you’ll be shocked to hear — I was pretty low on the list,” she said. “I postponed the wedding indefinitely.”
Bruce Willis (1987 – 1998)
Perhaps Moore’s best-known relationship is with Die Hard star Bruce Willis. The pair first met at a screening of his and Estevez’s movie Stakeout. “He was so attentive as the evening progressed, I was stunned to find out later that he’d actually been on a date that night with another woman!” she wrote in her memoir.
Soon after, they moved in together and eloped in Las Vegas on Nov. 21, 1987.
“We were moving to the gambling tables when Bruce said, ‘I think we should get married,’” she recalled. “We’d been joking about it on the flight there, but suddenly it didn’t seem like he was kidding.”
They welcomed three daughters together: Rumer, born in 1988, Scout, born in 1991, and Tallulah, born in 1994.
In 1998, they announced their separation and their divorce became official by 2000.
“It’s a funny thing to say, but I’m very proud of our divorce,” Moore remembered. “I think Bruce was fearful at the beginning that I was going to make our split difficult, and that I would express my anger and whatever baggage that I had from our marriage by obstructing his access to the kids—that I’d turn to all of those ploys divorcing couples use as weapons. But I didn’t, and neither did he.”
Oliver Whitcomb (2000 -2003)
Following her long-term marriage with Willis, Moore dated martial arts instructor Oliver Whitcomb for three years.
In 2001, Hello! reported that they were engaged. “He got down on bended knee over a candlelit dinner at their home and produced a stunning three-carat diamond ring,” the source said.
After he popped the question, Moore reportedly started crying. “He asked her if there was anything wrong,” the source said. “Demi paused and then cracked up laughing. She assured him: ‘I’ve never been so happy.'”
The two split shortly after.
Ashton Kutcher (2003 – 2013)
Moore’s other highly publicized relationship was with Ashton Kutcher, who was 15 years her junior. They married in late 2005 and were together for years before he filed for divorce in Dec 2012. Their divorce was finalized in Nov 2013, amid rumors of his infidelity.
In her memoir, Moore explained that Kutcher had suggested bringing a third person into their marriage for threesomes. Soon, he cheated on her altogether.
“Because we had brought in a third party into our relationship, Ashton said, that blurred the lines and, to some extent, justified what he’s done,” Moore said of Kutcher’s cheating, per People.
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton,” said in their breakup statement in 2012. “As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.”
“I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi,” Kutcher added. “Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail.”
Sean Friday (2013 – 2014)
After her split with Kutcher, Moore was introduced to Dead Sara drummer Sean Friday by her daughter, Rumer, in 2013.
“Rumer brought [Demi] to a show in Los Angeles,” said a source. “She thought he was a fun guy her mom would like.”
The pair dated for a few months before calling it quits. Reports confirmed they were never serious.
Daniel Humm (2022)
Moore’s most recent known relationship was with Eleven Madison Park chef Daniel Humm.
“Demi met Daniel through mutual friends and they clicked right away,” a source told Us Weeklyin April 2022. “He’s very charming, loves the finer things in life and is extremely cultured, plus they share the same devilish sense of humor and sense of adventure.”
A few months later, they were spotted at The French Open together and even went Instagram official.
By November, they had gone their separate ways. “She’s in a good place,” a source told People at the time. “She’s happy and enjoying her children and her friends.”
