Out of all the award shows in the award show season, the Critics Choice Awards might be the most underestimated. But, with just a quick look down memory lane, it’s clear that the show is a major part of Hollywood history.
From upcoming stars making their mark in the industry by receiving the Young Performer awards to major red carpet moments, the Critics Choice Awards are one of our favorites to watch.
This year’s Critics Choice Awards, which were postponed twice because of the LA fires, will take place on Feb. 7. The night, which will be hosted by Chelsea Handler, will once again honor the best and most talented actors and filmmakers in TV and film.
On the film side, Conclave and Wicked are leading the pack with 11 each. Conclave’s nods include Best Picture, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes and Best Supporting Actress for Isabella Rossellini. As for Wicked, the blockbuster was nominated for Best Picture, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo, Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande and a Best Director nod to Jon M. Chu.
As for the TV nominations, Shōgun received the most nominations with six including Best Drama Series, Best Actor in Drama Series for Hiroyuki Sanada for Best Actress in a Drama Series for Anna Sawai. Other highly nominated shows with four nods each are Abbott Elementary, Disclaimer, Hacks, The Diplomat, The Penguin and What We Do in the Shadows.
