When it comes to major award shows like the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), most of the nominees make it to the award show. After all, even if they might not win, it is indeed “an honor to be nominated.”
With that said, however, a few of our favorite actors decided to skip the star-studded event. Among them was Alison Janney, who was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role as Grace in The Diplomat, Jonathan Bailey, who was nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category for his role in Wicked and Jeff Bridges, who was nominated for his role in The Old Man in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series category.

All the Nominees Who Skipped the 2025 SAG Awards:
Jean Smart
Jean Smart may have been in the video for the opening monologue, but the Hacks star didn’t make it to the event. She won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as Deborah Vance in Hacks.
As for why she missed the event, we guess that she’s standing by her statement against the awards from early January. At the time, she pleaded for fewer awards shows and more help for the Los Angeles fires.
“With All due respect during Hollywood’s season of celebration, I hope any of the networks televising the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT televising them and donating the revenue they would have garnered to victims of the fires and the firefighters,” she wrote on Instagram.
Martin Short
Martin Short was a surprise win for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series in his role as Oliver in Only Murders in the Building. Sadly, he wasn’t in attendance and presenters Joey King and Jack Quaid accepted the award on his behalf.
Short’s Only Murders co-star Steve Martin had announced a few days earlier that Short tested positive for COVID-19 following Saturday Night Live‘s 50th Anniversary celebration.
“Maya [Rudolph] came down with Covid, (she did NOT come to the show with it!) Marty came down with it,” Martin wrote on Instagram. “The SNL 50th Covid curse is real.”
Short and Martin also won for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Selena Gomez took the stage for the acceptance speech.
Javier Bardem
Javier Bardem was nominated for his role in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series.

Kieran Culkin ended up winning the award for his role in A Real Pain.
Karla Sofía Gascón
Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón is keeping a low profile after her resurfaced racist, Islamophobic tweets sparked major backlash. Though she was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, Gascón didn’t attend the 2025 SAG Awards.
Demi Moore won the award instead for her role in The Substance.
Ayo Edebiri
Ayo Edebiri was a double nominee for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Sadly, she did not make it to the show.
