Sandra Bullock was named People‘s World’s Most Beautiful Woman of 2015, and to celebrate, we are taking a look back at her career and memorable life moments.
Her first film
Bullock’s film debut was a movie called Hangmen in 1987.
Working Girl
In 1990, Bullock played the lead role in the TV version of Working Girl. The show only lasted 12 episodes, but got Bullock some major exposure.
Demolition Man
In what some might consider to be her breakout role, Bullock starred alongside Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone in 1993’s Demolition Man. We also begin to see the actress blossom into a beauty icon by inspiring women all over to sport the quintessential ’90s bob.
Speed
Bullock had already been working steadily since her film debut in 1987, but 1994’s Speed with Keanu Reeves made her a household name.
Video Music Awards
Speed catapulted Bullock into the limelight, and so began our love affair with her flawless style and beauty, like her edgy yet classic look at the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards.
While You Were Sleeping
1995’s While You Were Sleeping was the start of the romantic comedy side of Bullock’s career.
The Net
The same year, she proved that she’s still an action girl at heart with The Net, and somehow got the public to be intrigued with something they knew nothing about at the time: the internet.
A Time to Kill
A Time to Kill showcased Bullock’s real acting range and also showed how beautiful she looked in a simple white T-shirt and jeans.
Hope Floats
We loved Bullock’s southern drawl in 1998’s Hope Floats.
Practical Magic
1998’s Practical Magic is one of our favorite witch movies of all time. Midnight margaritas, anyone?
Miss Congeniality
At the turn of the century, Bullock showed us there’s not anything she can’t do, including physical comedy, in Miss Congeniality.
Murder by Numbers
In 2002, Bullock jumped back into another crime thriller with Murder by Numbers, around which time she also started dating then relatively unknown Ryan Gosling.
76th Academy Awards
Bullock was very Old Hollywood in this gorgeous white gown at the Oscars in 2004.
The Lake House
Bullock reunited with Keanu Reeves in 2006 for the time-travel fantasy movie The Lake House.
78th Academy Awards
Bullock attended the Oscars again in 2006, this time looking just as classic and elegant as before in a blue gown and simple yet glamorous hair and makeup.
The Proposal
In 2009’s The Proposal, Bullock was adorable alongside Ryan Reynolds, but it’s the scene in the woods where she sings “Get Low” with Betty White that is forever etched into our memory.
The Blind Side
Bullock tugged at our heartstrings and we thought she was unbelievable in 2009’s The Blind Side. Apparently, the Academy agreed: she won the Oscar for Best Actress that year.
82nd Academy Awards
Bullock looked gorgeous as she accepted her Best Actress award.
Becoming a mom
2010 was a huge year for Bullock career-wise, but she considers the adoption of her son, Louis, her biggest accomplishment of the period. “He asked why I have wrinkles,” she said to People recently. “And I said, ‘Well I hope some of them are from laughing so much.’ And he touched my face and said, ‘You’re not old, you’re just happy.”
Charity work
In 2012, Bullock was honored for donating $25,000 to Warren Eason Charter High School, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The act also won her the Favorite Humanitarian award at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards. In addition, she actively supports the American Foundation for AIDS Research, the Red Cross and Tuesday’s Children.
Gravity
Bullock took our breath away in Gravity, and the performance earned her another Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
2014 Film Festival
Bullock was, of course, stunning in this color-blocked lace dress at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala, but even more beautiful was the speech she gave that day about being inspired by other women in the industry. “I was watching heartbreaking stories about our past in this country that made me so proud to be in this business,” she said of her contemporaries bringing stories to life. “Because they will one day help me to show my son how far we’ve come.”
