When it comes to long-term relationships, Hollywood doesn’t always have the best track record. From Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, it seems even the most solid couples call it quits. And the 2019 celebrity breakups are no different: So far, the year has already seen the end of Toni Braxton and Birdman, Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie and Lady Gaga and Christian Carino.
Many high-profile couples go the distance — Kurt Russell & Goldie Hawn have been together for 35 years, with their marriage — but not everyone in Hollywood is so lucky to enjoy a lasting relationship. And while not every famous couple is destined to fail, celebrity relationships often face challenges that most do not.
As for this year, sit back and grab your tissues because the 2019 celebrity breakups so far are a doozy.
Teresa & Joe Giudice
Us Weekly confirms that Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Teresa and Joe Giudice are splitting up after 20 years of marriage. “Teresa and Joe have separated, but have no plans to divorce yet,” a source tells the magazine. “Teresa and Joe talked about their future when she and the girls were in Italy and decided it was best for them to separate.”
“Neither of them wanted to be in a long distance relationship,” the source continued. “Joe has been dating in Italy, Teresa is busy taking care of their girls right now. They harbor now ill will towards each other and will continue to coparent their kids. The girls will be going to Italy in December, Teresa will be staying home.”
The couple shares four daughters: Gia, Gabriella, Milania, and Audriana.
Colin & Livia Firth
People confirms: Colin and Livia Firth are separating for good after 22 years of marriage. Their representative gave this comment: “Colin and Livia Firth have separated. They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children. They kindly ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
The pair wed in 1997, and share sons Luca (age 18) and Matteo (age 16). They briefly separated in 2015, during which time Livia had a brief relationship with Italian journalist Marco Brancaccia. Things took a dark turn after their relationship ended, and Livia later filed a police report accusing Brancaccia of harassment.
In 2018, Brancaccia was charged with stalking. The Firths had appeared happy and reunited in the months since — but that just goes to show that red carpet photos can be misleading.
Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan
While Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan split back in 2018, they’ve only now finalized their divorce — AKA these two really, truly aren’t getting back together.
Luckily, it seems like an amicable enough separation, especially given the fact that they’re co-parenting their 6-year-old daughter Everly together. Dewan was the one who initially filed for divorce in October 2018, citing irreconcilable differences six months after they announced their split in April.
These two are now legally single: And since Tatum is reportedly dating Jessie J, and Dewan is reportedly dating Steve Kazee, that seems like great news all around.
Eva Amurri & Kyle Martino
Actress Eva Amurri and NBC Sports analyst Kyle Martino announced their breakup on Instagram on Nov. 15. Here’s what they wrote:
“Our family is starting down a new path. After a lot of thoughtful consideration, and work on our relationship, we have made the difficult decision to lovingly part ways as a couple. We are committed to, and excited about, raising our three beautiful children as close friends and deep partners, and we have the utmost respect for one another.”
Amurri and Martino got married in 2011, and share 3-year-old son Major James and 5-year-old daughter Marlowe Mae. Amurri is currently pregnant with their third child.
Ian Ziering & Erin Ludwig
After nine years of marriage, BH90210 star Ian Ziering is calling it quits with wife Erin Ludwig. People reports that Ludwig filed for “dissolution with minor children,” citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their divorce.
The former couple has two children together: 8-year-old Mia Loren and 6-year-old Penna Mae. They will be seeking joint custody of both daughters.
Ziering first announced the split on November 1, writing: “It is with a heavy heart that I tell you Erin and I are splitting up. With our hectic work schedules we could not be busier, and over the last few years have grown apart…We ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time as we focus on what is important to us, our girls.”
Solange Knowles & Alan Ferguson
Solange Knowles announced on Instagram in November 2019 that she and her husband of three years, Alan Ferguson, have split. “11 years ago i met a phenomenal man who changed every existence of my life,” Knowles wrote. “Early this year we separated and parted ways, (and tho it ain’t nan no body business 😭) i find it necessary to protect the sacredness of my personal truth and to live in it fully just as I have before and will continue to do. it is unfair to not have power of your own story as you shape and mold and rewrite it yourself.”
John Mellencamp & Meg Ryan
John Mellencamp and Meg Ryan have callied it quits — again. After dating from 2011-2014, the couple then broke up for three years, citing long distance as the reason they couldn’t make it work.
When they reconciled in May 2017, things got serious quickly: Early 2018, they announced their engagement. But as of November 2019, People confirms that the engagement has been called off.
Is there hope for these two in the future? Only time will tell.
Odette & Dave Annable
After nearly a decade of marriage — and being together for over a decade — Dave and Odette Annable have decided to call it quits. The couple, who memorably starred in the family drama Brothers & Sisters together, announced their separation to People in a joint statement on Oct. 15. “It’s with heavy hearts that we have come to the mutual decision to separate at this time,” they said, alluding to the well-being of their 4-year-old child, Charlie. “Our daughter is our primary concern and we remain committed to co-parenting her together. We ask that you please respect our family’s privacy at this time.”
Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott
Social media has a way of making relationships appear perfect, even when there are problems beneath the surface. Such seems to have been the case for Kylie Jenner and longtime partner Travis Scott — per TMZ, the young couple has decided to take a break. The outlet’s sources claim that the now-exes have cooled considerably since they appeared together at the premiere of his Look Mom, I Can Fly documentary in Santa Monica. They reportedly opted several weeks ago to split up… at least for the time being.
TMZ’s sources pointed out that Jenner and Scott have taken time apart in the past, only to ultimately reconcile. They’re still young, and they share daughter Stormi, 1, so who knows? There’s certainly still time for them to fix their issues and come back together. For now, though, multiple outlets are reporting that Jenner and Scott have gone their separate ways.
Zooey Deschanel & Jacob Pechenik
Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik broke up after four years of marriage in September. “After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners,” they told Hollywood Life in an exclusive statement on September 6. “We remain committed to our business, our values, and most of all, our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time.” The pair have two children: their daughter, Elsie, who was born in July 2015, and their son, Charlie, who was born in May 2017.
Katie Holmes & Jamie Foxx
Just when the famously private Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx were finally photographed together — at the Met Gala, no less — they broke up. But it’s fine: Soon after the news of their split dawned, Holmes was photographed in world’s most perfect fall outfit, which somehow managed to include a cashmere bra. Whomever is photographed wearing a visible cashmere bra in broad daylight, hailing a cab in NYC, wins the breakup. Everyone knows that.
Adele & Simon Konecki
After 7 years together, Adele and husband Simon Konecki have sadly split. Adele’s representative shared a statement with Associated Press: “Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
The former couple shares a son, Angelo, born in 2012.
Michelle Williams & Phil Elverum
People reports that Michelle Williams and Phil Elverum have split, around 9 months after their secret wedding. A source offered this statement: “Michelle and Phil separated at the beginning of the year. It was an amicable spilt and they remain friends.”
Williams and Elverum both suffered losses in their romantic life previously: Williams’ former partner Heath Ledger passed away in 2008, and Elverum lost his wife Geneviève Castrée in 2016. Both of their children from these past relationships were present at their small, private wedding.
Bradley Cooper & Irina Shayk
After four years of dating, Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk have split, People confirms. The two share 2-year-old daughter Lea De Seine. The couple hasn’t commented on the breakup, but a source told People that Cooper and Shayk’s relationship “changed” after the actor’s 2018 film A Star Is Born, which put a strain on their connection.
“Bradley was emotionally absent during the long time filming A Star Is Born,” the source said. “They tried to save the relationship but it had changed.” The source continued, “Since Bradley and Irina have always been very private about their relationship few knew there was really for sure something going on.”
Allison Williams & Ricky Van Veen

The couple told Page Six in a statement: “With mutual love and respect, we have made the decision to separate as a couple. The couple was last photographed together at the 2018 Oscars Vanity Fair party.

We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this transition.”
The couple met on set in 2012, started dating in 2013, got engaged in 2016, and tied the knot later that year.
Wendy Williams & Kevin Hunter
It’s been a difficult year for Wendy Williams, and this news isn’t likely to make it any easier. People confirms that Williams has filed for divorce after 20 years married to manager Kevin Hunter. “Thank you to everyone for respecting the family’s privacy during this time. Kevin is supportive of Wendy and they are working through this process together,” Williams’ representative tells the magazine. “No additional comment will be provided at this time.”
The former couple wed in 1997, and share an 18-year-old son, Kevin Jr. They’ve had their ups and downs: Williams wrote about Hunter’s past infidelity in her memoir, and has been open about her addiction struggles. More recently, she’s talked about her battle with Grave’s disease, saying she and Hunter were “glued at the hip” during this trying time.
Ben Affleck & Lindsay Shookus
Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus have split once again, a source tells Entertainment Tonight. The couple had previously split back in August of 2018, reuniting this February. While their last split seems tied to Affleck’s addiction struggles (he re-entered rehab shortly thereafter), this split is apparently due to the long-distance nature of their relationship.
“The distance was definitely a huge factor in their breakup,” the source tells ET. “They both have a lot of love for each other but ultimately they realized it was not going to work.” Affleck is based in Los Angeles, while Shookus works out of New York City.

In 2017, the couple moved from New York City to Los Angeles together, when Seacrest was asked to host Live with Kelly and Ryan.
Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth
It seems like only yesterday that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth tied the knot, but People reports that the couple has called it quits. Cyrus’s representative gave the following statement to People: “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
The couple met in 2009, and Hemsworth first proposed in 2012. After a rocky engagement, the couple split in 2013 — then reconciled in 2015, and officially became husband and wife December 2018 in Tennessee. Their split was announced August 10, 2019.
Zachary Quinto & Miles McMillan
Say it ain’t so! 8 months after celebrating their 5-year anniversary, Zachary Quinto and Miles McMillan have ended their relationship, E! News confirms. The couple had been quiet about their relationship on social media for some months, sparking rumors of an upcoming split, and Quinto attended with 2019 Oscars without McMillan.
They began dating in 2013, and moved in together in 2015. In 2016, they admitted they “talk about” the possibility of getting married, but had no immediate plans.
