Every year, TV networks hold our emotions hostage while we wait to learn the fate of our favorite television programs. Will that drama you’re deeply invested in get renewed? Will your cherished sitcom be picked up for another season? Or will they both get the axe, and slowly fade into oblivion? Sometimes, we’re on the edge of our seats until the last minute. But thankfully, we already know that some of our most beloved TV shows have already been officially renewed in 2019.
So, what are they?
We have confirmation that Fox’s 9-1-1, which is part of the Ryan Murphy stable of shows currently on the air or in development right now, will be returning for season three later in 2019. Starring Angela Bassett and Parenthood alum Peter Krause, the series follows a group of Los Angeles firefighters, police officers and 911 responders as they handle various calls throughout the LA area. Additionally, The Resident, starring Gilmore Girls alum Matt Czuchry, will return for a third season at Fox, The Conners got a season two renewal over at ABC and Shameless will be back for another go-round on Showtime.

‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’
It’s official: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been renewed for Season 4. Earlier this week, the series received two Golden Globe nominations: Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy and Best Actress for Rachel Brosnahan.
Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino shared their excitement over the good news: “We were thrilled to hear that for the fourth time, we do not have to pack up and vacate the premises. We’d like to thank Amazon for all their faith and support, their partnership and enthusiasm, and for letting us hang with our favorite people, the cast and crew of Maisel, for a little while longer.”
‘Watch What Happens Live’
NBCUniversal announced today that Watch What Happens Live has been renewed through 2021, with host Andy Cohen at the helm. “I keep waiting to stop having fun – or run out of guests, stories or booze; but the party rolls on and I couldn’t be more excited!” Cohen said of the show’s renewal.
WWHL has been on the air for over ten years, and has made its mark as the only live show in late-night television. Cohen’s willingness to get into the messiest drama with his guests has yielded incredible entertainment over the past decade, and we’re so excited to see more.
‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’
Congrats to Kelly Clarkson! After just a few months on the air, NBCUniversal has renewed The Kelly Clarkson Show for a second season in syndication. Clarkson’s daytime talk show combines “Kellyoke” segments, celebrity guests, and interviews.
Here’s what executive Tracie Wilson at NBCUniversal had to say about the renewal: “The Kelly Clarkson Show is connecting with viewers in a unique way, and we are so happy to build on that momentum, bringing Kelly’s brand of humor, heart, and, of course, the incredible ‘Kellyoke,’ to stations for a second season. It is a privilege to be in business with Kelly and our production team, led by Alex Duda, who have a clear creative vision and a talent for storytelling and creating quality entertainment that invites you in for a good time and leaves you feeling happy.”
‘Brooklyn-Nine-Nine’
Did ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ just film the best Season 7 of all time? Three months before the 7th season even airs, the Hollywood Reporter confirms that NBC has renewed the beloved comedy series for Season 8.
Season 7 will premiere on Feb. 6 — until then, you can binge the last six seasons on Hulu.
‘The Walking Dead’
AMC announced on October 5 that The Walking Dead will be renewed for Season 11, and Lauren Cohan’s character Maggie Greene will return as a series regular. Showrunner Angela Kang says they “couldn’t be more thrilled” about the news: “[Maggie] is a really compelling character,” she raved. “And Lauren is such a compelling actress.” It’s a rare honor for a show to make it to 11 seasons — congratulations to all involved!
‘Elite’
Smash hit Spanish series Elite has just been renewed for Season 3 by Netflix — and better yet, they’ve already wrapped filming, with a season release expected in 2020, Deadline reports. This drama takes place at Las Encinas, an exclusive (dare we say, elite) boarding school where our protagonists (played by Danna Paola, Itzan Escamilla and Miguel Bernardeau, among others) reside. Netflix also announced the addition of new cast members Leïti Sène and Sergio Momo, but it’s unknown what roles they will play.
‘Stranger Things’
According to Deadline, Netflix just renewed Stranger Things for Season 4, as the show’s creators The Duffer Brothers sign a multi-year overall deal with the company. A video announced the Season 4 renewal, featuring flashes outside of Hawkins, Indiana, and teasing a new tagline: “We’re not in Hawkins anymore.”
‘On Becoming a God in Central Florida’
Kirsten Dunst gets to keep her J-O-B at Showtime a little longer, y’all. The network has renewed its dark comedyOn Becoming a God in Central Florida, in which Dunst pays Krystal Dubbs — a minimum-wage worker and mom in ’90s-era Florida who out-schemes the pyramid scheme that made her go broke. And yes, it’s every bit as deliciously addictive as it sounds. Catch up on season one before season two drops, presumably sometime in 2020.
‘Absentia’
Stana Katic has been teasing big things to come for Absentia in recent weeks, and now it’s official — Amazon has picked up the mystery-crime-thriller series for a third season. According to Deadline, Katic and the rest of the cast are currently filming in Bulgaria. The new season, which the actress is also executive producing, will come to Prime Video exclusively in 2020.
So, FBI Special Agent Emily Byrne will be back. But there are a few notable shakeups to the production. Will Pascoe (Orphan Black, Shut Eye) will replace Samantha Corbin-Miller as showrunner and co-executive producer. There will also be two new faces joining the cast: Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Geoff Bell and Wonder Woman‘s Josette Simon.
‘Euphoria’
HBO’s dark teen drama Euphoria took the world by storm — and now, it’s set for a second season.
‘Lucifer’
Fan favorite Lucifer was renewed by Netflix for a fifth and final season in June, following mass outcry when Fox cancelled the series after Season 3.
‘High Maintenance’
Long live The Guy! HBO’s High Maintenance was renewed for a fourth season.
‘Succession’
HBO’s Succession was renewed for a third season after just two episodes of Season 2 had aired — and been adored by viewers and critics alike.
‘PEN15’
Hulu’s beloved PEN15, starring Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine, has been renewed for a second season. The release date has not yet been announced.
‘Vida’
Latinx drama Vida is getting a third season from Starz, to the delight of its avid fanbase.
‘GLOW’
Netflix original series GLOW is getting a fourth and final season, the network confirmed in September
‘The Handmaid’s Tale’
Variety confirms that Elisabeth Moss-led drama The Handmaid’s Tale has been renewed for a fourth season. Season 3 is still airing on Hulu.
‘Russian Doll’
Netflix hit and critical darling Russian Doll has been confirmed for a second season, according to Variety.
‘Dead to Me’
In June, Netflix dark comedy, starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, was renewed for a second season, according to Variety.
‘Single Parents’
The series about a group of single parents who form their own village has been renewed for a second season by ABC.
‘Empire’
The Fox series has been in the news a lot over the last few months following the controversial legal drama that unfolded around Empire star Jussie Smollett. The series will be back for a sixth and final season this fall.
‘Riverdale’
Mere months after Riverdale star Luke Perry’s sudden death, The CW renewed the teen drama for its Fall 2019 lineup.
‘Modern Family’
Modern Family fans better get those tissues ready. The series is coming back for its 11th and final season next fall.
‘The Good Doctor’
Medical drama enthusiasts: rejoice! The Good Doctor is scrubbing in for a third season.
‘A Million Little Things’
A Million Little Things, ABC’s new tragedy-porn hit, has been picked up for a second season.
‘American Housewife’
ABC’s American Housewife will be back for a fourth season of salty retorts and #momgoals adventures.
‘Fresh Off The Boat’
Constance Wu’s Twitter gaffe aside, everyone should be cheering for Fresh Off The Boat‘s
renewel.
‘NCIS’
How long can NCIS stay on the air? Place your bets now! The crime procedural was just picked up for season 17.
‘God Friended Me’
God is definitely on this show’s side: it was picked up for a second season at CBS.
‘Criminal Minds’
Prepare to say goodbye to all your favorites, because Criminal Minds is coming back for its 15th and final season.
‘Blue Bloods’
Cop drama Blue Bloods has been renewed for a tenth season by CBS.
‘Manifest’
NBC drama Manifest, which follows the passengers of a flight that arrives five years after it took off, has been picked up for a second season.
‘Shrill’
It came as no surprise to Aidy Bryant fans when Hulu announced it had renewed this insightful comedy about a woman’s journey to self love.
‘Killing Eve’
Less than 12 hours after the Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer starrer premiered its sophmore season, BBC America announced it had renewed the runaway spy thriller for a third season.
‘9-1-1’
Ryan Murphy-created series 9-1-1 was renewed at Fox for a third season, according to Variety’s report in March. Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment at Fox, gave the show high praise in a statement about its renewal, commenting, “9-1-1 redefinedwhat a procedural series can be, consistently delivering edge-of-your-seat emergencies, mixed with emotional story arcs and incredible performances from one of the most powerful teams of actors on television. Kudos to Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Tim Minear and their entire crew, as well as the amazing cast anchored by Angela Bassett, Peter Krause and Jennifer Love Hewitt for raising the bar week after week.”
‘The Resident’
The Resident will be getting a third season thanks to Fox selecting it for renewal in March, per Variety. Of the show’s renewal, Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment at Fox, said in a statement, “Amy Holden Jones, Todd Harthan and the team behind The Resident continue to showcase their brilliant storytelling, revealing both the triumphs and tragedy within the medical world. Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp and Bruce Greenwood, along with the stellar cast, have developed rich and compelling characters through their heartfelt performances.”
‘The Conners’
ABC chose to renew Roseanne spinoff The Conners for its second season in spring 2019. Citing high viewership ratings as reason for its renewal, Variety included the following statement from ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke upon the show’s renewal: “We are proud to be continuing the story of the iconic Conner family. This team is fearless in their willingness to tackle contemporary issues with humor and heart, and I have no doubt they will continue to outdo themselves.”
‘Younger’
Hilary Duff-led Younger was renewed by TV Land for Season 7. Season 6 was the show’s most successful yet.
‘Atlanta’
In an unusual turn of events, FX renewed Donald Glover’s Atlanta for an 8-episode Season 4 before Season 3 was even in production.
‘Pose’
FX Networks renewed Pose for Season 3 after stunning reception for the dance drama’s Season 2.
‘Schitt’s Creek’
In March, Variety reported that Schitt’s Creek had been renewed for its sixth and final season on Pop. Starring veteran comedians Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara as well as Dan Levy and Annie Murphy, this Canadian comedy is about a wealthy family laid low by a financial scandal and forced to start over in the rustic community of Schitt’s Creek. The show has gained a new following on Netflix, where seasons one through four are available to watch now.
In a statement on social media about the show’s renewal for a final season, Dan Levy wrote, “We are very excited to announce that Schitt’s Creek is coming back for a sixth season on CBC and Pop in 2020. We also wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that we have decided Season 6 will be our last. We are so grateful to have been given the time and creative freedom to tell this story in its totality, concluding with a final chapter that we had envisioned from the very beginning. It’s not lost on us what a rare privilege it is in this industry to get to decide when your show should take its final bow. We could never have dreamed that our fans would grow to love and care about these characters in the ways that you have.”
‘Superstore’
NBC renewed their hit comedy Superstore, which stars America Ferrera, Ben Feldman and Mark McKinney, for season five. The series follows a group of employees who work at Midwestern big box store Cloud 9, charting the absurdity and the ennui of working a minimum wage job in modern America.
‘The Sinner’
USA Network renewed The Sinner for season three with Bill Pullman reprising the role he originated in season one and Matt Bomer joining an all-new cast. In season three, Pullman’s character will be investigating a murder in Connecticut with Bomer playing an upstanding, likable local parent who may or may not be involved in the crime.
‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’
Following its move from Fox to NBC after it was canceled in 2018, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was renewed at NBC for season seven. Starring Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher, the comedy series follows a group of Brooklyn cops on their hilarious cases from week to week.
‘Star Trek: Discovery’
CBS All Access renewed the newest Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Discovery, for a third season in March, as reported by Variety. The series has found a new generation of Star Trek fans, acting as a prequel to the original 1964 StarTrek series created by Gene Rodenberry and following the adventures of the Discovery crew as they make their way through space.
‘No Activity’
CBS All Access renewed the star-packed comedy No Activity in March for season three, Variety reports. The series stars Tim Meadows and Patrick Brammall as two cops in their car on a stakeout and trying to figure out how to pass the time until their targets actual do something illegal. Over the course of two seasons, the show has included guest stars like Jessica Alba, Joe Manganiello, Nasim Pedrad, Amy Sedaris and J.K. Simmons.
‘Hell’s Kitchen’
In March, Variety reported the Fox had renewed Hell’s Kitchen, the cooking competition show hosted by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. The series will go on for at least two more seasons
‘Chicago PD’
Variety reported in March that NBC renewed the Dick Wolf drama Chicago PD for season seven along with Chicago Fire and Chicago Med. The series follows the cases and the lives of one group of Chicago police officers.
‘Chicago Med’
In March, NBC’s Dick Wolf-created Chicago Med was renewed for season five in March. The series, set in a Chicago hospital and tracking both the doctors and patients who pass through its doors, is one of three beloved Chicago-set series from Wolf.
‘Chicago Fire’
Chicago Fire was one of the three Chicago-set dramas created by Dick Wolf that were renewed by NBC in March. Fire follows the men and women working in a single Chicago fire department as they go through the highs and lows of the job.
‘Young Sheldon’
In late February, Variety confirmed that CBS had officially renewed Young Sheldon for seasons three and four. Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement why the renewal for the Big Bang Theory spinoff came earlier than expected: “Thanks to Chuck Lorre’s and Steve Molaro’s outstanding creative leadership, Young Sheldon has been a powerful performer for the network with an audience that towers over most of the television landscape.”
Variety reports that Young Sheldon is currently the second-highest show when it comes to viewer numbers, pulling in a reported 14.6 million viewers each week. With that kind of pull, it’s no wonder this show will be on CBS for at least two more seasons.
‘The Haunting of Hill House’
After a successful first season, Netflix has seen fit to renew The Haunting of Hill House, a horror TV series starring Carla Gugino and following one family as they deal with a lifelong haunting following their time living in a home filled with ghosts. Netflix plans to turn the show into an anthology-like show, teasing that the second season will be titled The Haunting of Bly Manor and will be based on the novel The Turn of the Screw. Season two will arrive in 2020.
‘Shameless’
It seems Shameless isn’t going anywhere, at least not yet. The dramedy was renewed for a 10th season, making it Showtime’s longest running series.
‘Fuller House’
In January, Netflix announced that Fuller House is coming back for a fifth season, but the news is bittersweet. The streaming service also revealed that season five will be the show’s last.
‘The Masked Singer’
Reality competition fans, rejoice: The Masked Singer has been renewed for another year. The show, which began in 2018, features celebrities facing off against one another while wearing elaborate costumes and full-face masks.
‘Suits’
After nine long and very successful seasons, Suits will be coming to an end. The final 10 episodes will air sometime in 2019.
‘Arrow’
In January, the CW announced that superhero series Arrow would be returning for an eighth season. The show, which stars Stephen Amell, follows the life of billionaire playboy (and vigilante) Oliver Queen.
‘Black Lightning’
The series is on hiatus until April, but the CW announced that Black Lightning is coming back for another year.
‘Charmed’
Witches, unite: the highly anticipated reboot of Charmed has been picked up for a second season.
‘Dynasty’
Primetime soap opera Dynasty is getting another season. The show, a reboot of the beloved 1980s television series, will enter its third season.
‘Legacies’
Good news, vampire and werewolf fans: Legacies — a spinoff of The Originals and its predecessor, The Vampire Diaries — has been renewed for a second season.
‘Legends of Tomorrow’
In January, the CW also announced the superhero series Legends of Tomorrow had been picked up for a fifth season.
‘Supernatural’
Even after a whopping 14 seasons, fantasy phenomenon Supernatural remains widely acclaimed. Fans adore the ghost/demon hunting show, and they’ll be able to enjoy it a little longer: Supernatural was renewed for a 15th season.
‘The Flash’
This one seemed like a given, considering that it’s one of the CW’s most popular shows. On Jan. 31, the network confirmed The Flash will be returning for more.
‘The Other Two’
Comedy Central has renewed new comedy The Other Two for Season 2, following positive reviews for Season 1.
‘American Gods’
Starz renewed Neil Gaiman’s American Gods for a third season, after a well-received (and long-awaited Season 2).
‘Sex Education’
Hit teen show Sex Education is getting an 8-episode second season on Netflix. Filming started this spring, and new episodes will likely be available for streaming in 2020.
‘Big Mouth’
Big win for Big Mouth! Netflix renewed the hit animated series for three additional seasons (through Season 6).
‘The Umbrella Academy’
Superhero series The Umbrella Academy was renewed for a 10-episode second season on Netflix. All the main cast are set to return.
‘Grace and Frankie’
Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s lovable Grace and Frankie was renewed for a sixth season by Netflix.
‘Trinkets’
Kirsten Smith’s Trinkets will get a second and final season on Netflix, continuing the story of these three teen misfits.
‘Ramy’
A24’s Ramy will get a Season 2 on Hulu, also starring writer and creator Ramy Youssef.
‘Barry’
Dark comedy Barry starring Bill Hader was renewed by HBO for Season 3 just a few weeks into Season 2.
