Benedict Cumberbatch rarely rocks the auburn curls he was born with. Here’s a look back at where he’s been — good and bad.
Baby Batch
Benedict played William Pitt in Amazing Grace. When he wasn’t wearing a powdered wig, he rocked his natural hair color, short, along with a serious baby face.
Curly Batch
Dang. Look at those bedroom eyes. And he’s mastered golden, god-like tresses.
Blond Batch
Why not blond? Sure.
Tinker Tailor
He went all ’70s style as Paul Guillam in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Even grew sideburns!
Sherlock
Benedict’s big break came in 2010 as BBC’s Sherlock Holmes. He hates his hair this long because he thinks it makes him look like a girl.
Star Trek
Benedict might have played a bad, bad dude as Khan, but we felt really, really good about his hair. And added muscle mass. Murder me any day, sir.
Fifth estate
Nobody saw him as Julian Assange — obviously because his bad hair ruined the movie.
His own devices?
When left to his own devices? Sometimes, he looks like he just rolled out of bed. We wish we were in that bed with him.
Ginger Batch
Benedict has auburn hair (not ginger, as he likes to remind us). Sometimes, he goes au naturel with minimal styling. Lovely.
Imitation Game
As father of the modern computer, Alan Turing, his performance was Oscar-worthy, but his hair was a little too organized for our liking.
Hat Batch
Lazy day? He wears a hat. I assume he’s trying to be incognito, but with a face like that … well, a hat can’t hide handsome, sweetie.
Hollow crown
He will soon portray humpbacked King Richard III on the BBC, but we can overlook the hump for this angry badass look.
Between projects
After shooting Sherlock, he doesn’t always have time to get a haircut, so he does the classic Bogart comb-back (and looks adoringly at his wife).
Shorty Batch
It took some time, but this short haircut is growing on us. There’s something quite mischievous and youthful about it. Will he keep it this short for Hamlet in the fall? Hope so!
Love Batch
Oh, Benedict, do what you want with your hair. You’re adorable no matter what.
