While the Oscars have come and gone the 92nd Academy Awards are still on our minds. Whether it be looking at all the red and pink dresses on the red carpet or perusing after-party photos from some of the exclusive soirées like Vanity Fair’s annual celebration or Jay-Z and Beyoncés after-party, the 2020 Oscars are still on our minds.
Seeing Brad Pitt walking the carpet solo wasn’t a surprise although we were hoping he’d bring a date. And after learning about Keanu Reeves’ (not-so-new) girlfriend we were hoping they’d walk the carpet together. So, there were a few things we got our hopes up for that didn’t wind up panning out, like seeing Barack and Michelle Obama hand-in-hand on the red carpet. Okay fine, that was never a realistic possibility although they were nominated for their documentary American Factory which ended up taking home the Oscar for Best Documentary — so hoping to see former President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama on Hollywood’s biggest night wasn’t too far fetched.
And while many A-listers did take the carpet with their significant other like Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Idina Menzel and Arron Lohr, and Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost, many celeb couples we thought we’d see at the ceremony ended up not attending. Well, there’s always next year, right?
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, received 5 Oscar nominations, including Visual Effects, Film Editing, Original Score, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing. And while the film didn’t end up taking home the gold for any of these categories, seeing Han Solo would not have been a surprise.
Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth
While Reese Witherspoon didn’t attend the Oscars ceremony this year she did make it to the Vanity Fair after-party.
Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell
While Frozen 2 was not nominated for Best Animated Film the Disney flick was up for Original Song so it woud’ve made sense to see Elsa.
Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha
Unfortuantely these two did’t attend the ceremony but Kerry was seen at the Vanity Fair after-party.
Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith
While we didn’t see Will and Jada at the 2020 Oscars Will is currently filming King Richard where he plays Richard Williams, Venus and Serena’s father and coach. He’s already being talked about as a potential nominee.
Amal Clooney and George Clooney
Most like in Lake Como with their twins Ella and Alexander, Amal & George were not at the ceremony this year but maybe his new film Good Morning, Midnight will generate Oscar buzz and we’ll see these two on the red carpet next year.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé
While Bey’s song “Spirit” didn’t receive a nomination The Lion King was nominated for Best Visual Effects.
Denzel Washington and Pauletta Washington
We always look forward to seeing these two together.
Meryl Streep and Don Gummer
With all the Little Women nominations we were hoping she and husband Don would grace us with their presence.
Barack and Michelle Obama
While seeing these two on the carpet was of course not expected but since having produced a nominated film it wasn’t out of the question. And their documentary, American Factory went on to win the Oscar for Best Documentary.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban
The Bombshell actress and husband Keith Urban were reportedly at home with their kids telling media in Nashville they watched the Oscars at home.
“We made a big game out of it, Nic and I and the two kids,” Urban said. “We had a sheet each and we had to fill it all in before the thing started. And obviously a lot of the categories none of us have a clue, we just pick at random.”
Tommy Lee Jones and Dawn Laurel-Jones
Having starred in Ad Astra, nominated for Sound Mixing, it was possible Tommy Lee Jones would have been at the show with his wife Dawn.
Christian Bale and Sibi Blazic
There would be no Ford in Ford v Ferrari if it weren’t for Christian Bale — the flick snagged four nominations including Best Picture so not seeing Christian on the carpet at the show was a bit surprising.
Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig
Having starred in Knives Out (nominated for Best Screen Play) Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz were amongst the couples we expected to see on the carpet.
Sam Rockwell and Leslie Bibb
Having starred in Jojo Rabbit (which recieved six Oscar nominations) we were surprised not to see Rockwell take the carpet with wife Leslie Bibb.
Willem Dafoe and Giada Colagrande
The film The Lighthouse starring Dafoe and Robert Pattinson was nominated for Best Cinematography and so we were hoping to see this couple at the show together.
