Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, and other celebrities have decided to put their wedding on hold until after the coronavirus pandemic — with so many states putting into effect stay-at-home orders it makes sense that these stars would want to wait until they could truly celebrate with family and friends, face-touching and all. For many couples, this meant calling off a day they’d planned for months (and dreamed of for years). But when it comes to our public health and safety, these celebs are doing the right thing.
With the timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic still unclear, more and more couples are having to reconsider their planned weddings. First, the spring was off-limits, and now, it looks like summer may be too. While painful to think about, these stars publicly announcing that they’re postponing their ceremonies sends such a strong message to their fans about the importance of following social distancing regulations and putting the greater good ahead of personal needs.
And while the weddings themselves may be on hold, celebs may find this period of quarantine the perfect time to dream up an even better celebration for a later date. Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, who are now postponing their upcoming wedding as well, have said that they’re eager to make the most of their extra time in lockdown — and if designing elaborate Pinterest boards for a future wedding isn’t making the most of it, we don’t know what is.
Here are all the celebrities who postponed their weddings due to coronavirus — and can we just say, the wedding lineup for 2021 is going to be something else.
JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers
Bachelorette alum JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers spoke with The Knot about having to postpone their wedding ceremony.
“We kind of waited as long as we could and then finally had to make the decision to postpone it, which was difficult but it was absolutely the right decision,” the 29-year-old shared.
“And then now, the great news is that we have mostly everything still planned the way it was and our vendors and our venue, they’ve been so amazing. So we’re able really to just take what we had and just move it to next year.”
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez
Jennifer Lopez confirmed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that the coronavirus pandemic has thrown a wrench in her and Alex Rodriguez’s wedding plans. “We will see what happens now. Honestly, I don’t know what’s going to happen now as far as dates or anything like that,” Lopez said. “We’re just kind of in a holding pattern like the rest of the world. Again, it’s something we’re just going to have to wait and see in a few months how this all pans out.”
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi
Princess Beatrice has had to postpone her wedding for a third time due to the coronavirus pandemic. The couple first had to delay their nuptials due to the scandal surrounding Beatrice’s father Prince Andrew’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, and they’re now delaying their planned May 29 wedding at St. James’s Palace.
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom
A source confirmed to People that pregnant Katy Perry and fiancé Orland Bloom’s plans for a summer wedding in Japan have been postponed. “It was all set for Japan with 150 guests. Katy was actually really excited about walking down the aisle pregnant,” the source claimed. “They were both so elated that all the wedding details were finally coming together, but they are hitting pause because of coronavirus.”
Taraji P. Henson and Kelvin Hayden
The couple reportedly was to tie the knot in April but decided to push their wedding plans to June because of her crazy work schedule with filming her upcoming Netflix movie — but it now looks like their plans are getting pushed later because of coronavirus telling Extra, “It’s probably going to be more like July. We have to see what this will be like at the other end.”
Emma Stone and Dave McCary
Page Six confirmed that Emma Stone and fiancé Dave McCary had cancelled their plans to marry in mid-March. The couple has not yet set a new date.
Dennis Quaid and Laura Savoie
Dennis Quaid confirmed that his early April wedding with fiancée Laura Savoie was called off. “We were supposed to be married April 4 in Kauai. Craig T. Nelson gave us his house. It was going to be nice and small,” the actor told People. “We postponed once we started to hear about Italy…We have a few members of the family and friends who have low immune systems due to medical treatment, medical issues going on. We decided, ‘Let’s just postpone.'”
