Can you believe it’s been 30 years since Ferris Bueller took his infamous day off? Here’s what the stars are up to now.
Matthew Broderick: Then
Brockerick starred as the title character who charmed everyone with his charisma. Everyone, that is, except his sister and Mr. Rooney.
Matthew Broderick: Now
Since Ferris Bueller, Broderick has enjoyed a busy career in movies, on television and on stage. He wan a Tony award in 1995 for his role in How toSucceed in Business Without Really Trying and was also nominated for a Tony for his work on The Producers. He’s married to Sarah Jessica Parker, and they have three children.
Alan Ruck: Then
Ruck played Ferris’s adorably uptight friend Cameron, who reluctantly went along with all of his bestie’s high jinks.
Alan Ruck: Now
Ruck has racked up an impressive number of acting credits, appearing on shows such as Spin City, Psych and Greek.
Mia Sara: Then
Sara starred as Ferris’s awesomely self-assured girlfriend, Sloane Peterson.
Mia Sara: Now
Sara also continued to act after Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and appeared on shows such as Chicago Hope, Birds of Prey and CSI: NY.
Jeffrey Jones: Then
Jones was hilarious as Ferris’s bumbling nemesis, Principal Rooney.
Jeffrey Jones: Now
Jones starred in the popular show Deadwood from 2004 to 2006 and most recently had a part in the 2014 film 10.0 Earthquake.
Jennifer Grey: Then
As Ferris’s jealous older sister, Jeanie, Grey didn’t get as much screen time as Broderick, Ruck and Sara, but she made up for it with some of the most amazing scenes in the movie. Like when she triple-kicks Mr. Rooney in the face.
Jennifer Grey: Now
The year after Grey played Jeanie Bueller, she starred in Dirty Dancing and pretty much became a household name. She’s still acting, and in 2010, she won Season 11 of Dancing With the Stars.
Charlie Sheen: Then
Sheen only had one short, yet epic scene in the movie, for which he was credited as “boy in police station.”
Charlie Sheen: Now
Sheen has enjoyed a prolific career in TV and film since Ferris Bueller. He starred in CBS’s Two and Half Men from 2003 to 2011 but left after a disagreement with the show’s creator and, well, you know the rest.
Cindy Pickett: Then
Pickett played Ferris’s overly doting mother, who coddled her son so much that we really couldn’t blame Jeanie for being so annoyed.
Cindy Pickett: Now
Pickett stays busy as a working actress and currently has five projects in either production or post-production, including a Star Trek TV movie.
Lyman Ward: Then
Ward was perfect as Ferris’s ’80s yuppie father, Tom.
Lyman Ward: Now
Ward is still acting and most recently played Ted on Jim Jefferies’s FX show Legit.
Edie McClurg: Then
McClurg was certainly chipper as Grace, Mr. Rooney’s assistant.
Edie McClurg: Now
McClurg played Mrs. Beeker on the CW’s 7th Heaven from 1996 to 2006. Since then, she’s appeared in more than 40 shows and movies, including NCIS, Mike and Molly, Hannah Montana and Desperate Housewives.
Ben Stein: Then
Stein’s role as a teacher in Ferris Bueller was tiny, but his monotone “Anyone? Anyone?” and “Bueller? Bueller?” is still quoted today.
Ben Stein: Now
Stein has worked on countless shows as a voice actor and appeared on numerous commercials. He is very politically active and currently serves as an in-house journalist at Newsmax Magazine.
