It’s not easy being a member of the Royal Family, but Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge is doing a pretty good job of handling the role with ease. The little princess celebrated her fifth birthday May 2, the fourth-in-line royal to the throne is being groomed for a life in the public eye.
She has wonderful mentors to look up to who can help her along the way. Her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, has handled her leadership with grace, and her mother, Kate Middleton, has learned the ropes over the years so there is no doubt Princess Charlotte will find her voice as a public figure.
The day before her fifth birthday, the Kensington Royal Instagram account released new photos of Princess Charlotte to commemorate her big day. The pictures show her true colors — there’s confidence and mischief behind that smile. At the same time, Princess Charlotte is ready on a mission to help others during a time of need.

Her personality has been shining through even as a young toddler, who was happy to wave to the camera during the Trooping of the Color or even give a shy smile on the first day of school. Princess Charlotte is a social butterfly.
“She’s definitely the biggest character of the three children at the moment,” a source told E!“She’ll come up to guests and ask them if they want tea or coffee or offer them sweets — so adorable!”
This makes Princess Charlotte well-suited for her future work as a royal, but for now, it’s time to celebrate being five years old. Happy Birthday, Princess Charlotte!
She is Sporty and Artsy
Princess Charlotte is an artist and an athlete. Her parents have boasted that their daughter loves dancing and gymnastics. She’s been working on her flexibility, cartwheels and handstands, and Prince George practices with her from time to time.
She Has a Mischievous Side
Princess Charlotte is anything, but shy. She’s always enjoyed the spotlight even from a young age. She finds those key moments to steal the thunder away from her parents and siblings. At the King’s Cup Regatta last year, she got a little sassy in front of the media and her mom reprimanded with her stern warning. It’s tough to be well-behaved all of the time!
She Made History at the Age of Two
When Princess Charlotte was two years old, history was made. The Succession to the Crown Act of 2013 changed the rules, where Princess Charlotte couldn’t be overtaken by Prince Louis as heir to the throne because of her gender. She remains in place as fourth-in-line and her younger brother is fifth.
She is Bilingual
Princess Charlotte has a knack for languages and was bilingual by the age of two, thanks to her Spanish-born nanny, Maria Turrion Borralo. Prince George is also learning the language, but Princess Charlotte is already chatting away in Spanish.
She Likes More Than Kid Food
Princess Charlotte has a sophisticated palate for a five-year-old. By the time she was three, Kate Middleton revealed her favorite food was olives — forget chicken nuggets! She also enjoys cooking her meals and cheesy pasta is a favorite in the royal household.
