The Emmy nominations have finally been revealed and we cannot believe how much good TV there was this past year. From high dramas to hilarious sitcoms, thought-provoking mini-series like Mare of Easttown, specials like Oprah’s interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (yes it was nominated!) and more, our time spent glued to our TV screens was well worth it, especially during a year where we needed an escape.
While this year’s nominations were full of pleasant surprises, one element of this year’s class of nominees definitely stood out to us: a fantastic array of popular and prestige shows alike were represented. Of course, we love a good prestige show (looking at you, Succession) but in this past pandemic year, there were also plenty of feel-good, easy binges that we completely devoured and offered us the escape we needed. Whether you traveled to a galaxy far, far away with your own little ones, or spilled some major tea wit in the high society groups of Victorian England, a slew of shows gave audiences a much-needed respite from the pressures of the year.
Now that we finally know who could be receiving that coveted statuette in the months ahead, it’s time to take stock of our favorite, feel-good shows that made for some excellent viewing choices this past year. With great selections on streaming platforms like HBO Max, Disney+, and Netflix, there are plenty of options to catch up on some of the best shows of the year. Take a look at six of our favorite, feel-good and fun TV shows that have the TV Academy’s seal of approval.
Ted Lasso
With more than 10 Emmy nomintions, Ted Lasso will undoubtedly score some major gold at this year’s awards ceremony. The Apple TV+ series stars Jason Sudeikis as the titular character, who leaves America to coach a struggling London football team. Not only is the show a positive, feel-good feat of perserverance, it’s a thoughtful commentary on contemporary masculinity with a cast that delivers impeccable timing from a tight script.
Bridgerton
One of the hottest, most talked about shows this year is now an Emmy nominated drama! Bridgerton earned a total of five Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama and Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The frothy adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novel series was the toast of Netflix, and it’s already poised for a second season. Plus, we can’t help but blush at the thought of those sex scenes and the undeniable chemistry between the cast members.

Emily In Paris
Emily In Paris‘ surprising awards season seems almost too good to be true, and yet it’s now an Emmy nominee for Outstanding Comedy Series. Offering a bit of a rosey look at the life of a young woman from the midwest who lands a job working for a Parisian marketing firm, the Lily Collins-led series shows of the sights of Paris and some fabulous costumes.
Watch on Netflix.
The Mandalorian
Gather your little Jedis, because The Mandalorian has earned a whopping nine Emmy nominations this year! The Disney+ series transports longtime and new Star Wars fans to a galaxy far, far away for tons of adventure and plenty of Baby Yoda cuteness. You can stream all of the first and second season on Disney+.
Hacks
Hacks brings together the veteran talent of Jean Smart with newcomer Hannah Einbinder for this delicious comedy series on HBO Max. Nominated for eight Emmys, Hacks explores the twisted mentorship between legendary comic Deborah Vance (Smart) and a 25-year-old writer (Einbinder). The script is biting, the two leads are terrific, and the first season is on HBO Max right now!
WandaVision
WandaVision became the Marvel-TV crossover that fans and critics loved. With nine Emmy nominations, the show is a perfect watch for the whole family. The homages to classic sitcoms will surely dazzle any parent, and the superhero storylines will keep your kids completely engrossed!
