The Primetime Emmy Awards are finally here! While we’re all about watching the incredible acceptance speeches and waiting with intense anxiety for any shocking moments during the telecast, there is one part of the evening we cannot help but fawn over: the red carpet. This year, as with practically most years, the legendary leading ladies of TV absolutely blew us away with their fashion, and it was women over 40 who totally owned this red carpet. With Jean Smart, Kate Winslet, Julianne Nicholson, Kathryn Hahn, Allison Janney, Padma Lakshmi, and so many more amazing women nominated this year we knew we’d get an incredible show, and these women proved without a doubt that their red carpet game is only getting better with time.
We were awed by so many fashion statements by these women, who throughout their careers have consistently made style headlines with a bold brand of confidence all their own. But the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards were different than most. This is the first red carpet we’ve really had for the event in two years. Last year, the Emmy Awards were basically a giant Zoom party, making for some interesting on-camera moments, but also plenty of incredible looks worn by Tracee Ellis Ross, Jennifer Aniston, and more. This year, however, audiences who tuned in early got to see a red carpet full of some of their favorite stars — and the looks were so worth the wait.
As we watched, we knew that it was the ladies over 40 who were working the red carpet like never before, from Jennifer Coolidge to Amber Ruffin, Mindy Kaling, and many more. We loved their effervescent confidence and style at this historic ceremony. In fact, we couldn’t get enough of it, so we built an entire slideshow for these women! Check out some of our favorite ladies over 40 slaying the red carpet at the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards!
