Since Lady Gaga uttered the phrase “Father, Son, and House of Gucci” in the first official trailer for House of Gucci, we haven’t been able to stop thinking about this dramatic tale rife with seduction, power, and Italian accents. House of Gucci features a story tailor-made for a cinematic adaptation, and we have Ridley Scott and company to thank for bringing it to life. The movie debuts in theaters just before Thanksgiving, on November 24. But before you head off to your local cinema to watch Gaga “take out the trash,” let’s dive in a little bit more to this movie, featuring a venerated cast taking on some of the most illustrious and infamous members of the Gucci family.
House of Gucci is based on the true story of Patrizia Reggiani’s assassination of her husband, Gucci heir Maurizio Gucci. The film’s cast of characters includes a number of Gucci family members, and they’re brought to life by some of the most respected talents in Hollywood: Gaga, of course, plays our Patrizia, while Adam Driver plays Maurizio Gucci, Al Pacino plays Aldo Gucci, Jared Leto and Jeremy Irons play Paolo and Rodolfo Gucci, and Salma Hayek plays Giuseppina ‘Pina’ Auriemma, one of Patrizia’s accomplices.
This cast is stacked with a who’s who of Oscar winners and nominees, and with Ridley Scott stitching the story and performances together, you’ve got quite the outfit. Before the film hits theaters, take a look at the side-by-side photos of the cast and the real-life people they play.
Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani
Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani in House of Gucci. The actress has spoken extensively about her process for getting into character, which included sporting her Italian accent for months prior to production. Reggiani is the figure at the center of House of Gucci. Following her 1994 divorce from the Gucci family, Reggiani hired a hitman to assassinate her former husband, Maurizio Gucci.
Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci
Oscar nominated actor Adam Driver plays the ill-fated Maurizio Gucci in House of Gucci. Maurizio made his way up the ladder in the Gucci family, taking on a prominent role in the family business. His marriage and its eventual disintegration were highly publicized — as was his murder.
Jared Leto as Paolo Gucci
Oscar winner Jared Leto plays Paolo Gucci in House of Gucci. Paolo is one of the prominent members in the family, a cousin of Maurizio. He was, for a time, the chief designer and vice-president of Gucci, responsible for the fashion house’s double G logo.
Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci
Oscar winner Al Pacino plays Aldo Gucci in House of Gucci. For more than 30 years, Aldo served as the chairman of Gucci between 1953 and 1986. He was also Maurizio’s uncle — his father’s brother.
Jeremy Irons as Rodolfo Gucci
Oscar winner Jeremy Irons play Maurizio’s father, Rodolfo Gucci, in the film. A former film actor, Rodolfo’s only child was Maurizio. After retiring from acting, Rodolfo got involved in the family business. In-fighting between him, brother Aldo, and Aldo’s children led to an all-out battle between family members.
Salma Hayek as Giuseppina ‘Pina’ Auriemma
Oscar nominee Salma Hayek plays Guiseppina ‘Pina’ Auriemma in House of Gucci. A self-proclaimed psychic, Pina was integral to Patrizia’s life in the early ’90s. During the Maurizio Gucci murder trial, it became abundantly clear that Pina played a role in Patrizia’s plot.
