We can all go back to that one moment when we were young and we experienced unbridled, unadulterated love. Remember those butterflies in your stomach? Cheeks turning red from blushing so much you’d rather hide behind your textbook than look anyone in the eye? Well, those emotions aren’t new, and over the years, several movies have captured the innocence and sweetness of young love — with Valentine’s Day nearly here, we’ve rounded up some of our favorites that are available to stream right now on Disney+.
Some of these movies are tailor-made to watch with your kids. Who wouldn’t want to introduce their tween to Heath Ledger singing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” to Julia Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You? Better yet, what about the iconic first duet between Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) in High School Musical? Both films and more found that tender sweet spot of capturing young love and the anxiety that comes with it — thanks a lot, high school.
Valentine’s Day is all about love, and now that it’s just a week away, what better time than to pick out a few sweet, touching movies about young love to stream with your family? Tuck in for a movie night, and check out some of our recommendations — all of which are available to stream on Disney+.
’10 Things I Hate About You’
Let’s start this lovely little list by taking it back to modern classic. 10 Things I Hate About You stars Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles in this contemporary iteration of William Shakespeare’s comedy The Taming of the Shrew. Katarina “Kat” Stratford and Patrick Verona make quite a pair. With Kat’s strong will and Patrick’s schemes might get the better of each of them throughout this beloved film, but as with every Shakespeare comedy, love triumphs — with the help of a marching band and a famous Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons song rendition.
