As we head into another Mother’s Day, we want to celebrate everything moms. It’s no secret that moms are absolutely amazing: guiding us, teaching us, loving us. Sometimes, we’re even lucky enough to call our mamas our best friends well into adulthood — and we’re not the only ones. Many celebrities never pass up an opportunity to sing their mothers’ praises.
Whether it’s bringing them to highly exclusive red carpet events like the Oscars or gushing about them in interviews, many of our favorite stars love talking about their moms. Even if their parents are superstars themselves, or had a rough time seeing eye-to-eye with them in their childhood, many stars have grown up to say that their best friend in the world is their mom, and we love celebrating these super-close family friendships.
From Kanye West to Kathy Griffin, Kate Hudson, and more, these celebs share how their moms are the first person they call with good news and their favorite person to talk to, or gush over what a formative effect their moms have had on their lives. Even though some of these famous moms are no longer with us, they left an indelible effect on their kids’ lives — both as a parent and as a friend.
Read on for all the celebrities whose moms are their best friends below.

In a now-deleted Instagram post per Elle, Keys told the world how proud she is of her best friend and mom. “#ShesAKing, a Queen, a Warrior, a Woman, a Leader, a Rebel; my Mother, my Teacher, my Bestie, my Partner, my Inspiration, my Mommy… Thank You is too weak of a word! Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake has raved about his mama Lynn Harless for years, gushing about her in interviews and bringing her along to award shows. Back in 2010, Timberlake called his mom his best friend to the Daily Mail, saying, “We’re best friends — she’s a very special woman. She’s been so supportive. She’s partly the reason why I have so much respect for women. I’m never going to find someone as good as my mother, am I?”
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift has always been close to her mama Andrea. We all remember the touching moment her mother presented her with the Milestone Award at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Taylor told Taste of Country how close their bond is, saying, “She would just take me on these adventures and we would drive around and go to towns we’d never seen before… Those adventures and those days of just running away from my problems — you’re not supposed to run away from your problems, but when you’re 13 and your friends won’t talk to you and they move when you sit down at the lunch table, and your mom lets you run from those problems, I think it’s a good thing… My mom was my escape in a lot of ways.”
Kathy Griffin
Kathy Griffin has stated on multiple occasions that her mother Maggie Griffin is her best friend. Most notably, back in 2012, Griffin told Gourmet, “At 51, I still turn to her for advice.” Sadly, Maggie passed away at the age of 99 in 2020.
Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson is very close to her superstar mama Goldie Hawn, frequently making appearances on her Instagram. She told Associated Press back in 2013, “I am damn proud of [being my mother’s daughter]! … I really look at that as a real blessing because the relationship between mother and daughter is very complex and to be able to talk about the importance of the relationship is something that I look forward to. It really informed such a huge part of who I am and the confidence that I have as a woman. It really does come from the closeness that I have with mommy.”
Karlie Kloss
Model Karlie Kloss gushed about her mom Tracey in 2017, saying “My role model is my mother. She is the most strong and loving and passionate woman in my life. We all are who we are because of her and she is just my role model and my best friend, my style inspiration, she is everything. She embodies these characteristics of, you know, she’s empowered, she is confident, she is really, classically beautiful and ladylike but she also has a wild side.” You can watch the video HERE.
Rashida Jones
Rashida Jones never fails to say how proud she is of her celeb parents Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton. Back in April 2009 for O Magazine, Rashida said “My mother and I are more than best friends; we are partners in crime. After she and my father, Quincy Jones, separated when I was 10 years old, my sister, Kidada, who was 12, went to live with our dad, and I stayed with my mother. Mom is the most unconditionally loving person I will ever know, and she has always supported me on every level. Until last year she worked with me before every audition; she’s given me perspective, and she has let me cry when things haven’t gone my way — which, when you’re an actress, can happen a lot.”
Sadly, in 2019, Lipton passed away at age 72 from colon cancer.
Billie Lourd
Billie Lourd comes from a long line of powerful, amazing women in the entertainment industry. Her mother was Carrie Fisher and her grandmother was Debbie Reynolds. Lourd went through the unthinkable when Fisher passed away in Dec. 2016 from a cardiac arrest, with Reynolds passing away the next day from a stroke. In a 2021 interview with NY Post, Lourd talked about her grief, along with saying her mother was and will always be her best friend.
“I miss my mom every day and my grandma, but really, my mom the most. She was the greatest, funniest person ever. She was my best f–king friend ever. There’s no one who will ever be as funny as she is. She was just — she is amazing.”
Kanye West
Kanye West has always been wildly devoted to his mother Donda West, even naming an album after her. Donda passed away in 2007 at 58 years old, but Kanye has never stopped praising his best friend.
“This is the reason I did whatever song you might have heard of,” Kanye said of his mom in April 2004 during a taping of MTV’s “Diary.” In one of the segments, he went home to see his mom. “This is my mother,” he said. “I love her. She is my best friend in the whole world. My mother let me work on music, she helped me out, she used to drive me to the studio. She was really my first manager. She’s still my general manager.”
Selena Gomez
Ever since Selena Gomez came onto the scene, she’s never failed to mention how much she loves her best friend and mama Mandy Teefey. Back in 2009 for Just Jared Jr, Gomez said, “My mom means my happiness, my love, my best friend, and the world to me. She is the reason I smile and the reason I am here.”
Bradley Cooper
Along with bringing his mama along for a bunch of red carpet events, Bradley Cooper has praised his mom Gloria Campano for being an amazing mom and his best friend. Cooper told Details per Nicki Swift, “My family is very close, and my dad dying was brutal for all of us. It was a schism, and its aftershock has not stopped. And we need each other. So here we are … it’s not like I live in a compound and she’s in the guesthouse. No, she’s in the next room. But here’s the thing: she’s a cool chick. We can hang, and she can roll with the punches.”
