There’s already enough pressure when it comes to being a parent. But when you add to those daily stresses the eyes of the world watching your every move, it can seem nearly untenable. Several celebrities juggle public pressure, fame, career, and parenthood each day. When it comes to those famous parents who’ve also been through public breakups or divorces, those responsibilities can become even more intense. Thankfully, there are quite a few famous former couples who’ve found a way to celebrate one another, and today, we’re highlighting celebrity exes who pay tribute to their former partners on Mother’s Day.
Some of the entries on this list might surprise you. There are quite a few exes who routinely go out of their to highlight just how supportive they are of their former partner, and to celebrate their ex as a parent even though they’re no longer together. Tom Brady and Bridget Moynahan are just one prime example — it took some time for the former couple, who share son Jack Moynahan, to feel fully fulfilled and happy with their co-parenting arrangement, but since they reached an understanding, the two have been nothing but supportive of one another.
On Mother’s Days past, Brady has gone out of his way to highlight Moynahan and his wife Gisele Bündchen. The shout-outs, which he will often share on social media, always spotlight just how grateful he is to have both women in his life, and how he has the utmost respect for them as parents.
So, who else joins Brady and Moynahan on this list? Take a look at even more former couples and co-parents who celebrate their exes on Mother’s Day.
Nick Cannon & Mariah Carey
Following their 2014 split, Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey began co-parenting their twins, Monroe and Moroccan. And while some tabloids may have said differently, Cannon wanted to show the world how much he supported his former wife. In 2015, the entertainer took to Instagram to wish the “Hero” songstress a Happy Mother’s Day.
“Gotta represent for the Mother of my children. “She is such a wonderful, thoughtful, festive, loving and nurturing Soul. I will forever be in debt to you for blessing me and the rest of the world with Roc & Roe,” Cannon posted to Instagram, featuring a photo of Carey with the couple’s then-four-year-old twins, per People. Cannon called Carey a “true queen,” adding as a message to Carey he “will love you always.”
Tom Brady
Tom Brady and Bridget Moynahan were together from 2004 until 2006, welcoming son Jack following their split. The former couple’s post-split relationship was pretty acrimonious — after all, the two split when Moynahan was pregnant with her and Brady’s first child. But once Jack was born, they completely dedicated themselves to his upbringing. Eventually, their bond began to heal and the two are now quite friendly.
In 2021, Brady took to social media to wish Moynahan a Happy Mother’s Day. “Happy Mother’s Day [Bridget Moynahan],” Brady captioned a photo he shared to his Instagram Story, featuring the former couple with son Jack and his wife Gisele Bündchen.
Jay Cutler
While fans were shocked by their split, Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari made it clear very early on in their divorce proceedings that they were prioritizing the happiness of their three children. The pair stepped into their co-parenting roles not long after going their separate ways in 2020. By the summer of 2021, there were real signs the two had reached an amicable arrangement, as evidenced by Cutler’s touching Mother’s Day tribute to Cavallari.
“Some kids have all the luck. Happy Mother’s Day [Kristin Cavallari],” Cutler wrote on Instagram, per People.
Ben Affleck
Following their very public split and 2018 divorce, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck worked hard to ensure their kids, Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel, were front of mind as they began co-parenting. Roughly three years after their divorce, Affleck dedicated a touching Mother’s Day message to his former spouse on Instagram.
“So happy to share these kids with you. Luckiest parents in the world. Thanks for all the good you do. Happy Mother’s Day. Love, their Dad,” Affleck wrote.
Jennifer Lopez
Speaking of Affleck, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have also been very dedicated to ensuring their twins, Emme and Max, feel wholly taken care of and loved. On Father’s Day 2021, Lopez shared a collage of photos to her Instagram Story featuring Anthony with the couple’s kids, per People. We know this isn’t a Mother’s Day post, but we’d like to include this little shout-out to show just how this kind of love and support goes both ways for famous former couples.
Demi Moore
Demi Moore and Bruce Willis celebrated Mother’s Day in 2020 with a beautiful, black-and-white blended family photoshoot. Moore posted the images to her own Instagram account, writing, “Thankful to be with family today (and every day).” We know this isn’t necessarily a Mother’s Day shoutout, but it is a wonderful moment where Moore and Willis’ respective families came together to commemorate a special day.
Norman Reedus
On Mother’s Day 2021, Norman Reedus paid tribute to all the mothers in his life — including ex Helena Christensen, with whom he shares son Mingus. The Walking Dead actor took to Instagram and shared a black-and-white photo with partner Diane Kruger, with whom he shares a daughter, but the caption highlighted both Kruger and Christensen.
“Our little girl couldn’t have asked for a better momma. [love] u rabbit,” Reedus wrote for Kruger. “@dianekruger happy Mother’s Day to you babe. And to @helenachristensen and to my momma. And all the mommas. Happy Mother’s Day.”
