These Celebrity Kids Ushered in the Next Era of Fashion at the 2022 Met Gala

One of fashion’s biggest nights is often a family night on the red carpet for A-list celebrities. It’s the perfect place to introduce the next generation to the entire world on one of the biggest red carpets of the year — even Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour knows this, that’s why her daughter Bee Shaffer and son Charles Shaffer score an invite.

And yes, kids and celebrity families have to adhere to the theme, which is “In America: An Anthology Of Fashion,” specifically referencing the Gilded Age, so we will have to wait and see how they interpret that wardrobe framework. At last year’s Met Gala, which was part one of honoring American designers, celebrity kids like Kaia Gerber turned it up a notch with an Oscar de la Renta look, inspired by Bianca Jagger’s 1981 Halston Met Gala dress.(Spoiler alert: She nails it again this year.) We can only hope that other celebrity families bring the heat to this year’s event, especially since this is the first major red carpet many celebrities are attending after two years of the pandemic.

That’s exactly what Andrew Bolton, head curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute is hoping for on the red carpet. “What’s exciting for me is that some of the names will be very familiar to students of fashion, like Charles James, Halston, and Oscar de la Renta, but a lot of the other names really have been forgotten, overlooked, or relegated into the footnotes of fashion history,” he told Vogue. “So one of the main intentions of the exhibition is to spotlight the talents and contributions of these individuals, and many of them are women.”
