If there’s one thing we love about Halloween, it’s the spooky Halloween movies. If there’s magic involved, a vampire or two, or a really good song about pumpkins, we’re all over it. But there’s one sub-genre of Halloween movies we love above the rest, and it’s, of course, the witchy movies.
Lighthearted ones, dark ones, ones that make you want to grab a broomstick and swoosh through the sky: we can’t get enough of them. Now we’re not saying Halloween is the only time to binge these, but it’s the perfect time to binge them all in a row while wearing a witch’s hat from Spirit Halloween with no one judging you.
Now that it’s spooky season, our minds are consumed with one thing: finding the best witchy movies everyone can binge together this Halloween. So, we’re paying homage to the many witchy movies both terrifying and comforting. Starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, Practical Magic follows these witch sisters trying to live their lives. Bullock’s character Sally is a recently widowed mother who moves back in with her aunts, and tries to deny her magical gifts. Then Kidman’s character Gillian is a rebellious auntie who finds herself in a dire situation that she needs Sally’s help with.
‘Twitches’
Starring Tia and Tamera Mowry, Twitches follows these magical, long-lost twin sisters who soon realize they’re witches from another world that’s in grave danger.
‘Twitches Too’
In Twitches Too, Tia and Tamera Mowry are trying to embrace their double life as college students and royalty in Coventry. They’re balancing life, love, and each other, while trying to find their father, whom they thought died when they were babies.
‘The Blair Witch Project’
The Blair Witch Project is a terrifying found film footage movie that follows three teenagers looking for answers from people in a small town home to the Blair Witch, a legendary local murderer. However things take a turn when they get lost in the woods.

Dark Shadows follows a cursed vampire named Barnabas Collins, who is set free and returns to his home, where he finds his dysfunctional descendants. He not only falls in love with their new nanny but has to deal with the witchy woman who cursed him in the first place.
‘The Love Witch’
If you’re looking for a spectacularly sexy and shocking witch film, you can’t go wrong with the cult classic The Love Witch. The indie film follows a witch named Elaine who’s hell-bent on finding a man to love her, creating spells and potions. However, things get a little overwhelming, and that’s where the murders begin.
‘Oz the Great and Powerful’
Starring James Franco, Michelle Williams, and Mila Kunis, Oz the Great and Powerful gives Wizard of Oz fans the romance, magical-filled origin story of the leader of Oz.
‘Spellbinder’
Starring Timothy Daly and the late Kelly Preston, Spellbinder is a scary film where a lawyer falls in love with a mysterious woman. Get ready for this one; it’s an insane ride.
Suspiria
Mia Goth and Dakota Johnson star in Suspiria which centers around the sinister events at a Berlin dance company in the 1970s.
When the lead dancer is replaced she has a breakdown and accuses the company of witchcraft. Meanwhile, a psychotherapist and a member of the troupe try to uncover dark secrets by searching the studio’s underground chambers.
‘Bewitched’
Based on the hit series, Nicole Kidman stars in the 2005 film Bewitched, which is all about an actor (played by Will Ferrell) who’s remaking the show in real life. But he discovers his co-star is the real deal!
‘Beautiful Creatures’
Despite mixed reviews, we do love the dramatic romance movie Beautiful Creatures. This movie follows a boy named Ethan who falls for a mysterious girl named Lena, who’s secretly a witch who has to pick between good and evil.
‘Maleficent’
Starring Angelina Jolie as the titular character Maleficent, we get a new take on the classic Sleeping Beauty story, where Maleficient isn’t the evil character you were initially told.
‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’
Following the hit first film Maleficient, Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning reprise their roles for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Aurora is set to be wed to the Prince of another land, but it turns out her future mother-in-law has some plans in mind.
‘The Worst Witch’
Either you binge this movie every Halloween or you have no idea this existed, there is no in between. Starring Diana Rigg, Fairuza Balk, and Tim Curry, The Worst Witch is all about a young girl who’s trying to find her way at the witche’s academy, despite being called “the worst witch.”
