When the first Black Panther movie was released in February of 2018, the film broke records and barriers. Not long after, in October, Marvel studios announced a sequel would be made – and fans were ecstatic.
Since then, however, a few things have changed. More noticeably, Chadwick Boseman, who played the protagonist T’Challa in the first movie, passed away in 2020 at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer. Though plenty of discussion happened around whether a sequel should even be made without Chadwick Boseman, the studio adapted the storyline and gave a greenlight to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The movie, which opens in theaters on Nov 11, promises to deal with T’Challa’s death and bring a new era to the land of Wakanda. The official synopsis reads, “Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.”
