The Wall Street Journal‘s annual Innovator Awards celebrates artists and change-makers, from entertainment to architecture. At this year’s event, held on Nov 2 at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, eight special guests were honored for their impact in their fields.
The night’s honorees were Maya Rudolph (for comedy), Margot Robbie (for entertainment), Anitta (for music), Jenny Holzer (for art), Jony Ive (for design), Jeanne Gang (for architecture), Anthony Vaccarello (for fashion) and chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen (for humanitarianism).
I, Tonya star Robbie was celebrated due to the incredible work her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, has been doing. Speaking to the magazine earlier this week, the Australian actress discussed the motivation behind her decision to take Hollywood by storm. “I remember saying, ‘Every time I pick up a script, I want to play the guy,'” Robbie told the outlet. “‘Wouldn’t it be so cool if people pick up scripts that we’re making and always wanted to play the female role?'” In 2014, Robbie co-founded LuckyChap alongside her now husband Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr. Since the company’s inception, they’ve produced record-breaking projects including I, Tonya, Promising Young Woman and Netflix’s Maid.
Brazilian funk singer Anitta was honored for her record-breaking year after the success of her hit song “Envolver.” The “Dançarina” singer became the first Brazilian act and first solo female Latin artist to reach the top slot on the Spotify Global Daily Chart in history. “I’ve already done what was impossible,” she told the magazine of her unprecedented year.
In addition to the night’s award recipients, the red carpet also saw many familiar faces who attended the event to celebrate the winners and/or present an award. Other celeb attendees included Kate Moss, J Balvin, Hailey Bieber, Karlie Kloss, Amber Valletta, Meadow Walker and many others.
