If you were counting down the days until Lindsay Lohan’s return to the entertainment industry (the Lohan-aissance), look no further than Netflix for your next cozy watch. On Nov. 10, our favorite drama queen and mean girl headed to the wildly popular rom-com territory in Falling for Christmas, where she plays a hotel heiress who gets amnesia after a skiing accident. Hijinks ensue when blue-collar local and widow, played by Chord Overstreet, is in charge of taking care of her. He also has an adorable daughter to make this picture-perfect life seem extra enticing for our fictional Paris Hilton.
Lohan is just as excited as we are about her comeback, calling the movie to Cosmopolitan, “comforting” because it’s “a rom-com.” She added, “It’s always fun to work on something lighthearted and family-oriented that makes people happy and provides a bit of an escape.” She’s not the only one who is a Netflix darling these days — Kat Graham and Christina Milian are also battling it out for the queen of romance title on the streaming network and their movies make our list more than once.
It’s not just holiday fare either, Netflix has plenty of sweet and funny rom-coms that have nothing to do with Christmas. We added a few of those to the list just in case you are in a bah-humbug mood and looking for something without snow, twinkling lights, and mistletoe. So grab that hot cocoa, curl up on the couch, and get your warm vibes on for these fun films that are a little formulaic, but always deliver a good time.
‘Falling for Christmas’
What more can a viewer ask for when it comes to holiday movies? Lindsay Lohan, check. A spoiled heiress, check. Amnesia, check. And a widower and his daughter at Christmas time. Count us in!
‘A Christmas Prince’
The movie that started it all for Netflix Christmas movies! A journalist comes to do a story on a handsome prince who is next in line to the throne. Lots of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle vibes — and two sequels about their royal wedding and royal baby — are the perfect holiday fare.
‘Falling Inn Love’
Christina Milan plays a city career girl who wins an inn in New Zealand. Of course, she hires a good-looking contractor to help her with the renovations — and lots of romantic moments happen over drywall and wet paint.
‘A Castle for Christmas’
An epic pairing of Brooke Shields as a best-selling author, who battles it out with a curmudgeonly duke, played by Cary Elwes, over a Scottish castle. That grumpy guy turns to mush at Christmas as the duo falls in love.
‘Love Hard’
A rom-com for the modern age where Nina Dobrev travels thousands of miles to surprise her online dating app match for Christmas. It turns out… she’s been catfished.
‘The Princess Switch’
The Princess Switch with Vanessa Hudgens is basically The Parent Trap at Christmas with princesses. It’s so much fun watching Hudgens play multiple characters, and it’s a trilogy, so don’t miss all three of the films.
‘Single All the Way’
Michael Urie makes his best friend pose as his boyfriend to meet the family at Christmas. Of course, someone catches feelings and it’s not such a simple visit anymore.
‘Holidate’
Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey become each other’s plus ones all year… as friends. We know that never works when it comes to a rom-com, things always get tricky, and someone falls in love.
‘Christmas With You’
Coming Nov. 17 on Netflix, Aimee Garcia is a pop star looking for her next hit single when she grants a wish to a young fan and meets the charming Freddie Prinze Jr. along the way.
‘A Perfect Pairing’
Victoria Justice is an LA girl who leaves the big city for an Australian sheep farm (surprisingly not a bookstore or a bakery) and falls in love with a local country boy. Adam Demos is another one of Netflix’s favorite romantic actors.
‘The Holiday Calendar’
Kat Graham tackles the role of a talented photographer who inherits an antique Advent calendar that may be predicting the future. Will it point her in the right direction toward love?
‘The Noel Diary’
Coming Nov. 24, Justin Hartley is a novelist who returns to clean out his childhood home. He meets Barrett Doss, who is searching for her birth mother and together, they hope to find the answer in an old diary. The movie is based on Richard Paul Evans’ bestselling book, The Noel Diary.
‘Holiday in the Wild’
Kristin Davis has an Eat, Pray, Love moment when she heads on a second honeymoon in Africa by herself after getting dumped by her husband. It’s a good thing Rob Lowe is there to save the vacation and her heart.
‘Resort to Love’
Christina Milian plays a singer who is down on her luck, so she takes a job singing at a fancy island resort. It just so happens to be where her ex-fiancé is about to get married — awkward!
‘Operation Christmas Drop’
Kat Graham is keeping her rom-com queen title by playing a political adviser who falls in love with Air Force pilot looking to close his island base. Will his charitable Christmas tradition be saved by her?
‘Persuasion’
A fresh interpretation on Jane Austen’s classic novel, Persuasion, has Dakota Johnson looking for a second chance at romance with her true love. This movie has the LOLs and the heart all rolled into one.
‘Love in the Villa’
Kat Graham heads to Verona, Italy, for vacation only to learn that her Airbnb is already occupied by a really annoying guy, played by Tom Hopper. However, he’s very handsome, so maybe she can overlook his personality?
‘A California Christmas’
There always has to be a wealthy guy with sinister motives when it comes to real estate holdings. A California Christmas has a rich man posing as a ranch hand trying get a farmer to sell her family’s land before Christmas. Will it work?
