With King Charles III’s Coronation less than a week away, it seems he’s going into overdrive to ensure his monarchy is exactly the way he wants after May 6. As many royal fans know, Charles has been working diligently to make his monarchy a more modernized version than anyone has seen before. With his new means of modernization came unique ways of marking and, most famously, drastically slimming down the monarchy. And with the slimming came the evictions.

Charles’ most recent eviction is a controversial one, to say the least. In his attempt to slim down the monarchy, he evicted his late mother Queen Elizabeth II’s former “right-hand lady” Angela Kelly, from her Berkshire Cottage. Kelly confirmed the news of her move with a post on Instagram reading, “Getting ready to say goodbye. I am moving at last to my new home which I will be able to call My Home at last ♥️”

Now the reason this is causing so much controversy is that Kelly was promised lifelong accommodation by Elizabeth, yet she’s been asked to vacate the royal premises. Per Radar Online, Charles’ attempt to slash royal expenses also means that Kelly has been disconnected from her work duties at the palace and “cut off” from the King.

However, reports from DailyMail claim that Charles may have backtracked on his initial eviction and allegedly bought Kelly a new home near Guiseley in Yorkshire. (Which many fans have said contradicts his mission to cut royal expenses!)

Either way, fans are split on this decision. Many believe that Elizabeth probably would’ve wagged her finger at her son’s decision to evict one of her best confidantes so suddenly. One Instagram user wrote under Kelly’s post, saying, “Our lovely Late Queen loved you. That’s all that matters. She would not be happy about this. Good luck with the move,” and another added, “You did amazing work for the Queen . I don’t understand why the king is doing this too you ! I am disappointed with him…”

However, many people believe it was a form of karma due to reports saying that Kelly plotted to deny Meghan Markle access to the Crown jewelry. One Twitter user wrote, “Well. Look at God. Meghan lives in a mansion. Angela Kelly, the Queen’s Dresser, plotted with Kate Middleton and Prince William to deny Meghan Markle access to Crown Jewelry. Now Kelly doesn’t live anywhere. Swift downfall that was, huh Angela Kelly?”
