Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that the Met Gala is the pinnacle of luxury and fashion when it comes to red carpet events. For some celebrities that go every year, like Kim Kardashian or Rihanna, picking the night’s outfit is much more than looking through a lookbook or a clothes rack. Instead, a whole team of stylists, designers, artists, and many more come together to build the vision of their looks.
And, knowing the extensive work that goes behind every look that graces the steps of the Met, it’s even more shocking when stars accidentally twin on the carpet. Sure, it doesn’t happen every time, but it’s definitely still a bit of a suprise when it does.
At the 2023 Met Gala, for example, Don’t Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde twinned with VogueChina Editor-in-Chief Margaret Zhang in a Karl Lagerfeld-inspired gown. Though the two made it their own, it definitely had us all doing a double-take.
Check out some style twins from the 2023 Met Gala below!
Olivia Wilde
At the 2023 Met Gala, Don’t Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde wore this gold and white violin-inspired gown by Chloé. Following the night’s theme of honoring Karl Lagerfeld, the dress was almost an exact replica of a dress Lagerfeld himself designed for the brand in 1983, E! Online reported.
Margaret Zhang
Much like Wilde, VogueChina Editor-in-Chief Margaret Zhang was also inspired by the violin design. On the carpet, Zhang totally matched with Wilde this time with the dress in black instead of white.
On Instagram, Wilde has since acknowledged the twinning moment by writing, “Great minds” alongside a collage of the two of them. “If you’re gonna twin with anyone, make it @margaretzhang.”
Jessica Chastain
Jessica Chastain wowed at the 2023 Met Gala in this black strapless Gucci gown with layered ruffled and sheer detailing. She then paired the gown with sheer black opera gloves, a long silver necklace and black square shades. Chastain’s platinum hair transformation, however, totally stole the show.
Tory Burch
Fashion designer Tory Burch totally twinned with Chastain as she walked the carpet in this vintage Chanel dress from Karl Lagerfeld’s spring 1995 couture collection. The top is different but the bottom is almost identical!
