If an event is loved by A-listers and royals alike, then you know it’s gotta be a glamorous time!
Ever since the Cannes Film Festival started in 1946 (when it was originally known as International Film Festival), it has been known as one of the “Big Three” festivals that set the tone for films the following year. Not only do we love to see the new films that come out each year, but we always adore the sensational, bold red-carpet fashion that comes out of it every year.
Not only do Oscar winners and fashion superstars grace the red carpet every year, but so do many royals!
Over the years, quite a few royals have arrived on the red carpet! Sometimes they only make one appearance like Princess Diana and Princess Hermine of Clermont-Tonnerre, and other times: they become a red carpet staple like Princess of Venice and Piedmont Clotilde Courau and Princess Isabella Orsini.
Either way, we can’t help but get super excited when we see a royal on the red carpet! So in honor of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, let’s take a look back at every royal who arrived at Cannes!
Check out the details and photos below.
Princess Grace of Monaco
Princess Grace of Monaco visited Cannes Film Festival one more time in 1968! She visited a few times when she was an actress, and then once before as a royal. This was the last time she attended.
Prince Charles & Princess Diana
The only time Prince Charles and Princess Diana ever went to the Cannes Film Festival was in 1987 when they went to the event honoring Sir Alec Guinness. (Can we talk about Diana’s chiffon Catherine Walker dress? We’re still obsessed!)
Princess Margaret
Princess Margaret only attended Cannes once back in 1966 alongside her husband Tony Armstrong-Jones!
Princess Caroline of Monaco
Princess Caroline of Monaco became a staple at Cannes over the decades, first appearing in 1973, and making appearances in 1985, 1989, and 2004.
Prince Albert of Monaco

Princess Maria Chiara of Bourbon & Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon
