16 Most Expensive Tiaras in the British Royal Family

Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara: ~$11 million

Probably the most expensive tiara in the Royal Vault (that we know of) is the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara. While it’s most well-known for being the tiara Princess Eugenie wore to her 2018 wedding, it has a long history. Originally given to the Queen Mother in 1943 from a trunk of jewels by the late Dame Margaret Greville, the tiara was the Queen Mother’s favorite, but it never saw the light of day until 2018.

Not only does it have a 1920s Art Deco design, but it is over 90 carats and has a total of 13 emerald pieces, per the Court Jeweller. While there has been many speculation about the price of the tiara, ranging from $6 million to $13 million, Yahoo articles claim the tiara is around £10,000,000 (or $11,021,500).

The Burmese Ruby Tiara – $6.5-13 Million

While we see quite a few sapphires in the royal family, rubies are a bit rarer to come by. But the Burmese Ruby Tiara is a bit controversial because it was originally made from a wedding gift to Queen Elizabeth II: the Nizam of Hyderabad Tiara. She dismantled it in the 1970s and used the diamonds to create the ruby tiara, per Court Jeweller, and Elizabeth actually used the 96 rubies she received from the people of Burma.

Many jewelers place the tiara at $6.5 million, but many say it can be as much as $13 million

Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara: ~$6.8-9 million

Another iconic wedding tiara is, of course, the Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara that Princess Beatrice donned in 2020 for her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Worn by Queen Victoria, Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth, the tiara was originally worn as a necklace before being known as one of the most recognizable tiaras in the Royal Vault, per Court Jeweller. (In fact, it was the tiara Elizabeth and Princess Anne wore on their wedding days!) 

It is said to be around $6.8 million to $9 million.

Belgian Sapphire Tiara: $6.8 million

Let’s face it: the British Royal family loves their sapphires. Sometimes called the “Victorian Sapphire Tiara,” the Belgian Sapphire Tiara was a staple tiara in Queen Elizabeth II’s rotation. Per Buzzfeed, the original owner of the crown was Princess Louise of Belgium, who reportedly was forced to sell her jewelry. Because of this, it was bought by Elizabeth from Van Cleef & Arpels. 

It’s said to be around $6.8 million.

Lotus Flower Tiara: ~$4 million

Another tiara Kate Middleton opts for is the ver-so popular Lotus Flower Tiara. Originally made from a mixture of diamonds and pearls, the jewels actually came from a necklace King George VI gave to the Queen Mother on their wedding day, per Court Jeweller.

It’s said to be around $4 million!

The Greville Tiara” $2.4-3.7 million

Another tiara Camilla often opts for is the elaborate Greville Tiara. Originally created in 1921 with diamonds and platinum, it was known as a favorite of the late Queen Mother, per Court Jeweller. According to InStyle, Camilla added a few more rows of diamonds, making the price of the tiara around $2.4-3.7 million today.

The Meander Tiara: ~$2–$4 million

The Meander Tiara used to be Princess Anne’s favorite tiara, especially since it was given to her by the Duke of Edinburgh (also known as Prince Philip!) However, its most well-known by being Zara Phillips’ wedding tiara. It is believed to have been a gift to Princess Alice, and has been a staple in the family for generations, per Vogue. The Greek-inspired tiara is believed to be around £2,000,000–£4,000,000 (or $2,204,300–$4,408,600!)

The Strathmore Rose Tiara: ~$2 million

Probably the least well-known tiara is the Strathmore Rose Tiara, because, besides The Queen Mother wearing it once, it hasn’t seen the light of day. According to InStyle,it was a gift from her parents, and the flowers are actually removable and can become brooches. 

We love the floral design on this, and it’s one of their pricier tiaras at around $2 million.

Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau: ~$2.2 million

The tiara was first owned by Queen Mary, which she received as a gift from the County of Lincoln, per Town and Country Mag. Now the cool thing about this tiara is that the center stone is a brooch worn by the Queen in 1893. While it’s been worn multiple times over the decades, it’s most well-known as Meghan Markle’s wedding tiara. 

It’s believed to be around $2.2 million.

Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara: $1.1 million

When you think of the Lover’s Knot Tiara, chances are, you think about Princess Diana. Originally made in 1914 for Queen Mary, the diamonds and pearls were made from the Royal Vault. Per Instyle, Mary had it made “based off of a tiara worn by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel.” And it was said to give Diana headaches from how heavy it was!

In recent years, Kate Middleton has opted to wear it in public events, and it’s said to be upward of $1.1 million, according to Yahoo.

Cartier Halo Scroll Tiara: ~$1.1 million

The Cartier Halo Scroll Tiara was originally a gift from King George VI to the Queen Mother, which was later given to Queen Elizabeth II on her 18th birthday. It’s a staple in the Royal Vault, and was the tiara Kate Middleton wore on her wedding day! It’s said to be around $1.1 million.

The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara: $498K

One you may not know about is The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, which was most well-known as one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favorites. So this tiara was one of Queen Mary’s wedding gifts from the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland committee (hence the name), but she later gifted it to her daughter Elizabeth, who later switched out the pearls for diamonds, per InStyle.

It’s said to be almost worth $500,000.

Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara: ~$460K

The Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara was arguably Queen Elizabeth II’s all-time favorite tiara. The tiara was originally smuggled out of Russia by Grand Duchess Vladimir, who later had to sell it to support her children. Per Tatler, she sold the tiara to Queen Mary. Fun fact: the tiara was damaged after decades of wear and tear, so Elizabeth had it repaired and added a feature that made it easy for her to switch the pearl settings out for emeralds and vice versa. 

It is said to be around ~$460,000..

The Spencer Family Tiara: ~$440K

Unlike 99 percent of the Royal jewels that come from the Royal Vault, the Spencer Family Tiara comes solely from the Spencer family. Diana donned this on her wedding day, and it has a long history with the family (in fact, it was originally obtained by her grandmother, Lady Cynthia Hamilton, back in 1919, according to InStyle!) 

With the array of diamonds and the detailing, it’s estimated to be around $440,000 today, per Express.

Cubitt-Shand Tiara: $267K

The Cubitt-Shand Tiara is most well-known for being Queen Consort Camilla’s favorite, especially since it was obtained by her own family (specifically first acquired by her grandmother, Sonia Keppel, per Court Jeweller!) She wore it to her wedding to Andrew Parker Bowles, and even her daughter Laura wore it to her wedding. 

According to Hello, the diamond floral tiara is worth about $267,000.

York Tiara: ~$248K

Not only was the York Tiara the tiara Sarah Ferguson wore on her wedding day, but it was the tiara her daughter Princess Beatrice wowed in at the 2023 wedding of Crown Prince Hussein and Rajwa Al Saif. Fun fact: this tiara was specifically made for Ferguson, and it’s still in her possession to this day, according to InStyle.

The crown has a 5-carat diamond set on top, and is worth around $248,000.
