If you’re a fan of the British royal family, you know just how busy the royals have been these past few months. From the long-awaited coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camila on May 6 to the Trooping of the Color this past weekend, it’s safe to say the royals’ schedule has been quite stacked lately. And, adding to their many events, is this week’s Royal Ascot, an annual five-day horse race in which many of the royals make an attendance.
Before the race kick-off on June 20, U.K.’s new monarchs released a statement celebrating the big event. “We are delighted to welcome you to the Royal Ascot in this, the year of our coronation,” the message began.
Also in the welcome, Charles and Camilla talked about hosting the event for the first time since the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, and how he plans to keep her legacy alive. “The Royal Meeting always played a central role in Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s calendar and the naming of the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes will be a most appropriate way to mark this lifelong interest,” the royals wrote. “A photographic exhibition in the Grandstand will also celebrate The late Queen’s close association with the Royal Ascot, including images of her some of her twenty-four winners. We are sure that this exhibition will prompt many happy memories.”
“Finally, we wish the very best of good fortune to all the owners, breeders, trainers, jockeys, and hardworking stable staff with runners this week,” the royal couple concluded. “It is a huge and rare achievement to have a runner at Royal Ascot and we very much hope that you all enjoy the experience.”
