Much like any other strike in history, the SAG-AFTRA strike is most effective when everyone supports the cause. After all, if only half the actors are striking and the others are still working, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (or AMPTP for short) would never budge to their demands.
So, with that in mind, it’s safe to say all actors have joined the cause, right? Well… not exactly. Although many A-list actors have joined the picket line, including Jessica Chastain, Bryan Cranston, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Steve Buscemi, Brendan Fraser, and many others, and others have continued working through the authorized Interim Agreement, not everyone in Hollywood seems on board with the idea.
So, in honor of these recent statements against the strike, we’ve compiled the few actors who’ve made their anti-strike opinions crystal clear. And though the list may seem small, let’s think of that as a good thing! More unity equals better results, right?
Check all the seemingly anti-strike actors below.
Stephen Amell
Arrow star Stephen Amell was the first celebrity to fully be against the strike. “I support my union, I do, and I stand with them, but I do not support striking, I don’t,” he said in a video posted by Pop Crave. “I think it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating. And I think the thinking as it pertains to shows like the show that I’m on [Heels], that premiered last night, I think it’s myopic.”
Zachary Levi
While attending Manchester Comic-Con, Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi, who has shown his support for the strike in the past, talked about a specific rule he struggles to understand, per The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m not allowed to talk about…. This is so dumb. I’m not allowed to talk about any of my previous work.”
“I’m not allowed to talk about movies that I may be a superhero in,” he continued. “I’m not allowed to talk about TV shows that I may have been a nerd who worked at a Best Buy. I’m not allowed to talk about any animated princess movies that I was fantastic in — as the best prince ever! I’m not allowed to talk about those things.”
