A Home Jackie Kennedy Bought After This Major Life Change Is up for Auction — See Inside

The home Jackie Kennedy bought after John F. Kennedy‘s assassination is up for auction 60 years after his death.

According to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, the sprawling estate in Georgetown, Washington D.C. consists of three separate properties connected via passageways and an underground parking lot. The former first lady and her two young children, Caroline and John Jr., took refuge in a property across the street from the main house.

Jackie’s move from the White House into her property on 3017 N St. NW, attracted plenty of unwanted attention from paparazzi and supporters. According to reports, 75 people people gathered outside the home on the days of the move hoping to catch a glimpse of JFK’s grieving family as boxes were carried inside. Later, The Washington Post would describe the home as a “foremost tourist attraction.” Hundreds of people would gater each weekend and often left garbage behind.

Jackie ended up relocating to New York a year after JFK’s death after the home attracted too much attention from the paparazzi.

Now combined into one major listing, the property hit the market last year for $26.5 million and is currently priced at $19.5 million ahead of a no-reserve auction on October 24. This means the estate is one of the most expensive listings in Washington D.C.

Across the three homes on the elaborate compound, there are 13 bedrooms, 13 full baths and 5 half baths. Jackie wasn’t the home’s only famous resident. The Federal-style mansion and surrounding properties were also once home to Georgetown Mayor Thomas Beall, Secretary of War Newton D. Baker, and the former Miss America Yolande Fox. The property is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In the surrounding area, which is an affluent neighborhood in the US capital, other notable figures have also taken up residence throughout history. Francis Scott Key, Thomas Jefferson, Elizabeth Taylor and Alexander Graham Bell are among the name and the area is currently home to Jeff Bezos and Henry Kissinger.
